She explained that CEHURD’s human rights-based approach centres on participation, accountability, equality, non-discrimination and legal empowerment, while recognising the need for laws and policies to respond to local realities. She stressed that court action is only one tool among many, with CEHURD also using mediation, advocacy, survivor support and coordination with duty bearers. Human rights are not protected by laws alone. They are protected when institutions, communities and duty bearers can identify violations, raise concerns and demand accountability. This is why District Human Rights Committees are important. They provide a local platform for different actors to bring human rights concerns affecting communities to the attention of those with the mandate and responsibility to act. Today, CEHURD is convening a multi-sectoral engagement bringing together the Wakiso District Human Rights Committee (@WakisoHuman), @UHRC_UGANDA, @ULRCUg, @EOC_UG, health professionals, civil society and community advocates, policymakers and development partners. The conversation brings together two interconnected areas of work: strengthening advocacy for an enabling legal and policy environment for access to #HIV and #TB services, and strengthening duty bearers’ capacity to advance the #health, #humanrights, #reproductivehealth and #mentalwellbeing of women and girls. We are exploring how legal, policy and institutional barriers can be addressed, and how duty bearers can strengthen accountability and rights-based public service delivery. Because human rights protection must ultimately work for people where they live, access services and interact with duty bearers. #TBHIVHumanRights
