"Only those privileges based on superior strength and capability鈥攚on through effort and proven through renewed exertion鈥攁re ethically justified. Only the fruitful struggle, the productive competition that fosters self-improvement, constitutes the natural right of humanity. Economic and intellectual superiority affords the opportunity for higher forms of enjoyment, but also imposes the duty of higher achievement. Any enjoyment that becomes an end in itself, bearing no necessary connection to the objective deeds and purposes of the race, carries within it the seeds of decline and degeneration.
Thus, we observe everywhere that a nation, a social class, or a family that devotes itself exclusively to idleness and self-indulgence inevitably hastens toward its own decay. While privileges may for a time maintain an outward semblance of existence through the power of tradition and convention, and the degenerate descendants of a lineage that rose through arduous effort and struggle may unworthily enjoy their inherited privileges, the hour of reckoning strikes for them when a new, vigorous generation rises to topple the crumbling pillars of that former glory."
