How to vote as a Christian in America in 2026 is not complex.
A common ploy among evangelicals with left-leaning sensibilities is to nuance voting to death. They know it’s morally indefensible to support the Democratic Party of Death, but they so loathe conservatism that they need a way to persuade Christians not to vote Republican.
Enter the Character Argument: “How can Christians support Ken Paxton, a noted adulterer? Aren’t we the people who should demand better? Doesn’t character matter?”
Character does matter. It’s lamentable that vanishing few politicians have good character. But this line of argumentation abandons reason on a number of fronts. Here are a couple.
1. The active support of evil is itself emblematic of low character. Joe Biden and James Talarico are outwardly calm and genteel men. Yet both actively support the mass murder of unborn children, the desecration of marriage, and the erasure of creation-order gender distinctions. They are pursuing the success of evil. That makes them evil. Supporting straight-line violations of God’s Law is to be an evil person—the embodiment of low character.
2. Voting is first and foremost about supporting a candidate who most upholds justice and laws consistent with the will of God. Voting has always been about this. Character is not irrelevant, but a vote supports a public agenda. Supporting a Democratic candidate is therefore obviously sinful and wrong.
One of the Enemy’s most subtle tactics is to nuance morally simple issues. Resist this.

Zach was a Christian the way that Judas was a disciple. Now they’re both sons of perdition. Zach’s a heretic and false teacher. Pray for him to repent before it’s too late. Him endorsing Talarico is like a Judas endorsing Satan. Tells you everything you need to know.
I am a husband, father, and lifelong Texan. I’ve been a Christian since I was 5 and a pastor since I was 19.
And I just proudly voted for James Talarico, Gina Hinojosa, Jon Rosenthal, and Vikki Goodwin.
While it’s true that Ken Paxton is as corrupt and morally bankrupt as they come, Greg Abbott has decimated our public schools, Dan Patrick is bought and paid for by right-wing billionaires, and Bo French wears his racism on his sleeve, I didn’t just vote AGAINST candidates I know will do a bad job. I had the privilege of voting FOR candidates who will do a great job!
I originally connected with Jimmy Talarico many years ago (long before he got famous) and we became friends shortly after. He’s the exact same guy in private as he is in public—kindhearted, whip smart, hardworking, and very serious about following Jesus’ call to care for all people, especially the most vulnerable. That’s who he’s been in ministry, in the Texas Legislature, and I have no doubt that’s who he’ll be as a United States Senator too.
I’ve also gotten to speak with Gina Hinojosa, Jon Rosenthal, and Vikki Goodwin this year. I believe they will fight for two things that are very important to my family and so many people in our church community:
1. An economy where every Texan can afford to have their basic needs met.
2. Fully funded public schools where all children can thrive.
I’m not telling you who to vote for; I’m just telling you who I chose to vote for and why.
We are in a critical moment in both the United States and Texas, so I hope you vote. And if you are a follower of Jesus, I hope you see your vote as a way to prioritize the way of Jesus—sacrificial love of neighbor and justice for those who have been marginalized.

Christian since 5. Pastor since 19. That's a résumé, Zach, not a confession. Arius was ordained too. An apostate rarely leaves the church. He stays in the pulpit and rewrites the faith. That's you.
You told a same-sex couple their marriage "brings great joy to the heart of God." You posted that there are "absolutely no 'biblical' grounds for being anti-trans." Jesus disagreed: "From the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female'" (Mark 10:6).
Baker Publishing carries us both as authors. I'd ask them to put our pictures as far apart as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). Jesse Myers needs to take care of that or I am out at Baker. @ReadBakerBooks
You champion a man who told the Texas House "God is non-binary" and used Luke 1 to defend abortion. Luke calls the child in the womb a brephos, a baby (1:41), the same word he uses for Jesus in the manger. The most vulnerable Texan can't vote. You just voted against him.
You described "the way of Jesus" without the cross. Paul called that a different gospel and its preacher anathema, set apart for destruction (Galatians 1:8). Jude called such men "waterless clouds" and "fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted" (Jude 12).
Repent while the door is open.

That is not a pastor, that is a Biblically-defined false teacher and historically-defined heretic that (it saddens me to say) we had to excommunicate and remove from our church planting network. He currently walks as an enemy of the faith, and I pray he comes back to Jesus Christ.

Absolutely shameful and terrible behavior from the article’s author and editorial team. It’s just gossip and slander - plain and simple. Hopefully, it will at least cause some people to rethink their gullible slurping of the Rise and Fall hit piece podcast.

A couple things on this, because progressives use this to bully and intimidate (conservative) pastors into silence:
1) While I am very clear about the evil of many policies currently being advanced by the DNC and CLEAR moral asymmetry between the proposed policies of the parties, I do not endorse candidates right now.
2) Progressives selectively report churches to the FFRF every year. You'll never see this article about the (primarily AA) churches Democrats are in every week leading up to an election. It's an attempt at street-level lawfare.
3) Articles like this are toothless and you should just chuckle at them. We have a lawyer that argues Religious Liberty cases before SCOTUS at Lakepointe. No church in US History has ever had their tax exempt status removed for a sermon, much less for one in which a candidate was not even endorsed.
4) In the words of a couple knowledgable guys I consulted with, it's a harassment and intimidation tactic to silence pastors.
Intent of this post isn't to be combative, but I have realized this fear has intimidated some pastor friends and after looking into it, wanted to remove that fear.
BOTTOM LINE: You are 100% free to be clear with your people about the (radical) moral asymmetry between the current proposed policies and ideologies of the parties AND to encourage your people to vote as an application of the command to be “the salt of the earth” and to “seek the welfare of the city” and to “live your neighbor”.
