The beauty of #finance
It will ALWAYS price out truth.
I lead global new product development procurement in a similar, but not identical, manufacturing industry, that inevitably goes through the same type of gate processes that Apple will typically apply to NPI products such as the duo and I'll share some first thoughts and take considering the slew of impacts.
🧵
Supporting layers that run across stages:
• Dedicated durability labs (drop, water, dust, temperature, vibration)
• Thousands of units tested
• Accelerated life testing
• Supplier audits + Apple NPI engineers on-site at factories
• DFMEA (failure mode analysis) early in the process
Apple’s process is one of the most rigorous in the industry, especially on novel form factors.
It significantly reduces risk — but it doesn’t eliminate it. Early iPhone Duo reports of hinge-area issues are consistent with what often happens on first-generation foldables even after clearing these gates.
A visible crease line or early hinge-related screen defect (like the ones that leaked) would normally get caught in EVT or DVT during reliability testing of the display-hinge assembly.
Apple iterates until it meets their internal standards. That said, first-gen products can still show real-world edge cases after launch.
The main stages are:
• Mock-ups / Drop testing
• Proto
• EVT (Engineering Validation)
• DVT (Design Validation)
• PVT (Production Validation)
• Mass Production
Each stage answers a different question and has exit criteria.
EVT – Engineering Validation
This is where the real hardware battle happens. Production-intent materials. Heavy reliability testing on the hinge + display stack. Exit criteria: the design works and meets reliability targets.
For a foldable, this includes fold-cycle testing, crease depth/angle, and mechanical issues (noise, rattle, stress points).

Well, well, well… maybe change is in the air…
Ken Griffin explains why the rise of passive investing only works as long as active managers keep doing the research that sets prices
“So what’s very interesting is the rise of passive investing plays to the realization that markets are either efficient or semi-efficient."
"And it’s a way for investors to have low-cost exposure to either broad indices, to the world as a whole, or to specific sectors without having to pay the fees of active management."
"It’s been revolutionary for the world, this embracing of passive investing. But passive investing only works if there’s a meaningful community of people involved in fundamental research who are helping to set the pricing of securities."
"So passive investing requires the existence of capable, successful, and competitive traditional asset managers for the theory that underlies passive investing to actually play out, to actually manifest itself."
"So the rise of short-term investors helps to ensure that markets are efficient with respect to news that’s rapidly evolving. But we should really try to make sure that we take every step possible to make it that traditional asset managers have the ability to have prosperous and successful firms because they are so critical in the price discovery process that passive investing depends upon.”

A Europa será destruída por mulheres que projetam naqueles animais a maternidade que cabia aos filhos que elas abortaram.
When you are in power, I ask for my freedom, because that is according to your principles.
When I am in power, I take away your freedom, because that is according to my principles.
Spare me the pearl-clutching — especially from Republican Members of Congress and online MAGA grifters who have cheered President Trump's weaponization of the government against those he doesn’t like, as recently as last week. This is a subject I know something about: Less than a year ago, Trump directed the DOJ and FBI to investigate me, and then tried to criminally indict me for a 90 second video, exercising basic free speech. The same free speech you’re exercising now, lying about what I said in this clip. If not for an anonymous group of grand jury members standing up for America's laws, I’d be criminally indicted for sedition. President Trump has turned the government against people, with raucous support from you and virtually all D.C. Republicans. So spare us the manufactured outrage.
America must be a place where the rule of law still matters. Those laws should apply to everyone equally. If you have aided in the corrupt use of U.S. taxpayer dollars to benefit the President or his family, or you have violated the law in order to carry out guidance from the President, you should be held accountable. And given how rampant that corruption appears to the average American, people looking to work for his Administration should realize that while the Supreme Court has granted the President immunity, it has not done the same for those who do illegal things at his behest.
