The @esa mini-site dedicated to @ESA_Envision is now on line! Scheduled for launch in 2031, Envision will provide a complete view of Venus from its inner core to its upper atmosphere to determine how and why Venus and Earth evolved so differently. esa.int/Science_Exploration/…

I'm very excited to share my latest paper about why Venus has no moon. In almost every scenario, a hypothetical Venus moon spirals inward and is destroyed at the Roche limit. Venus' lack of moon may thus be a natural consequence of its slow spin. arxiv.org/abs/2608.25036

Field test! Using a helicopter to simulate a slow fall through Venus’ atmosphere, the DAVINCI team confirmed that their probe’s descent imaging system can read the landscape below & deliver results. Here's what happened and how it's preparing us for Venus: go.nasa.gov/4f1TqpB

Alpha Regio is one of the most interesting places in the Solar System. Its tessera terrain may preserve clues to ancient crustal processes on Venus, and DAVINCI is designed to explore that story by descending through the atmosphere to the surface.

Only one chance in this lifetime… Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him. I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.

In particular around the planet’s geological history and activity.  Envision, with its next-generation suite of instruments, is set to pick up the story.  Discover our Venus exploration story here 👉 esa.int/Science_Exploration/… 2/2

A mission like @ESA_Envision takes years of planning and a huge amount of teamwork between scientists, engineers, legal and project management officers. It's a process we want to share with you through a new video series planned from next year onwards, which will follow the development of this exciting Venus mission 🛰️ Did we make you curious? Here's a teaser of what's to come👇
