BREAKING NEWS: “Starmer denies knowing he was Prime Minister” Sir Kier Starmer has revealed that no one told him until last Tuesday he won the 2024 election and had become PM. He told Beth Rigby “I was totally kept in the dark by my officials. I’m really angry about it.”

This is a pretty outrageous response and accusation, Nic. You can say you don’t think Blockstream (or Core) is doing enough, or continue to push the urgency for more BIPs and quantum preparedness (which I share your concerns about); but coming out and accusing @adam3us of lying and asking him to dox or list his employees’ names is the height of bad-faith debate tactics. If my response to Google’s recent paper and warnings about a 2029 upgrade deadline was “I don’t believe you are working on it that hard—give me a list of each employee working on your quantum program,” it would be an equally stupid request. (Do you really expect any CEO to list 20 employees’ names to satisfy you?) Especially since Core devs and specifically Blockstream staff in the block size wars have been subject to assassination death bounties, doxing, harassment, spearfishing, targeted hacks, and even in some cases were hospitalized due to Segwit/block size wars bullshit. @Blockstream is far from perfect, but they and @ChaincodeLabs are publishing research and releasing signature schemes. @blksresearch contributed heavily to the design and quantum preparedness improvements that are running right now on the Liquid network. (This isn’t meant to ignore the work of other contributors like @cryptoquick also working on this issue—too many to name.) Twenty people can include applied cryptographers doing pure research, programmers, security ops teams doing testing on Liquid, and net ops security experts. I know for a fact current headcount at Blockstream could easily have room for 20 people working on quantum preparedness. I know you’ve put in time and work on your research, articles, and tracking of Core devs’ comments on quantum. You’ve also deployed capital to support teams like @projecteleven who are trying to be part of the solution. Stuff like this and other comments about firing the Core devs if they don’t respond (which I’ve seen you make) is the same unhelpful bullshit pulled during the NY Agreement or by other attempts to hijack Bitcoin. It does nothing to advance everyone’s common goal of a secure Bitcoin and help prepare for quantum mitigations as soon as it’s safe and responsible to deploy. Consensus takes time, as your own research points out. Is the work you are doing helping towards consensus, or is it making consensus more difficult? Not everyone can do the work of people like @n1ckler, Poelstra, or even ex-Blockstream like @pwuille or @TheBlueMatt. But those of us on the sidelines can help create a less toxic environment for those doing the work. Start working on policy issues related to lost & stolen coins, or things like the viability of proposals like Hourglass. Or even continue raising the warning flag—but please stop the “you’re a liar” if you don’t respond the way I want tactics. Constantly accusing everyone of bad faith is part of the toxicity that makes progress in these situations so hard. Shit like this doesn’t help. Just because @adam3us takes the “patience & planning leads to preparedness” approach that his very learned and well-earned experience in crypto—predating Bitcoin by decades—has taught him doesn’t mean you should start throwing out bullshit accusations. I for one welcome you keeping the warnings coming and making sure the community’s response is commensurate with the threat level you perceive. But this stuff crosses the line into toxic and creates unnecessary hostility for what is sure to be another very contentious, heated set of upgrades and decisions for the community. If we don’t learn to communicate better as members of an open-source project, we risk missing key deadlines and depleting the goodwill of developers (causing churn & talent loss) and confidence in Bitcoin’s ability to respond to threats. CSW already drove some of our most valuable devs underground. I think you are wise enough to not want to contribute to that level of hostility toward people doing the work we all depend on. Be better, Nic.

This is such a stupid fallacious tack double down on. If you’re upset on how your warnings on quantum were received, then discuss that. “Liar liar pants on fire unless you give me proprietary data I have no business asking for” is no way to conduct yourself. I’m happy to hop on the phone (dm me for a signal chat) to try and de escalate and explain this further because despite how things read on X, I’m not trying to make things personal with you and appreciate what you’ve done for Bitcoin. If I said you were a liar about the amount of capital you’ve deployed into bitcoin companies and insist you gave me the names of your LPs, check sizes and names & job descriptions of all employees in your portfolio companies working on bitcoin —- then doubled down and insist your unwillingness to give me data proves you a liar would that be honest? I for one thought some people in the communities response to your essays and warnings were dismissive and wrong. Too much shoot the messenger and not enough introspection about where you might be right. If some Blockstream staff were part of that, well then it’s fair to say “I don’t think you took my post seriously” or even “help me understand what I’m not seeing and what work might e occurring I’m not giving you credit for”. Not “you are a liar” and other non constructive things you’ve said. Especially when they are part of the solution you so loudly claim is needed. They are writing code, they are publishing research. There a 100 other bitcoin companies who have done nothing but you want to direct your attacks on the team and CEO who’s saying yes we take it serious and have lots of resources dedicated to it. Let’s take this offline and see where we can find some common ground because like it or not we are in this boat together and we both want it to stay seaworthy.

I am very surprised that European women don't want to marry/ have anything to with culturally distant, unintelligent, uneducated, illiterate, unattractive, poor men from countries who have no achievements, are profoundly uncivilised, clannish, violent and dysfunctional and whose main reputation consists of mass violence and rape of women, rape of underage boys (bacha bazi) Islamic terrorism, Islamic dictatorship, inbreeding and clannish tribal conflict.
Male refugees from Afghanistan and Syria in Germany show a keen interest in forming relationships with local women, but the local women show little interest in forming relationships with them. Germany, in particular, received over 1,4 million refugees between 2014 and 2016, predominantly from Muslim-majority countries such as Syria and Afghanistan. The majority of these arrivals consisted of young, single men within prime marriageable age brackets. This study examines partnership preferences of male refugees from Afghanistan and Syria who arrived in Germany between 2014 and 2016 and female residents of similar age. Overall, our results indicate a high level of openness among male refugees towards partnering with female members of the resident population, but a comparatively low level of openness among the latter towards partnering with recently arrived male refugees. This implies a substantial incongruence in partnership preferences among the two groups. Regarding the educational level of a potential partner, we found that all respondents prefer highly educated partners over those with lower levels of education. This suggests that, for refugees, securing a highly educated partner might serve as a means of upward social mobility and integration into higher-status networks in the host society. Furthermore, it is possible that highly educated women, due to their greater exposure to diverse social environments and potentially less discriminatory attitudes, are perceived as more open to intergroup partnerships, making them a more attractive choice for refugees seeking acceptance and social integration. On the other hand, the reluctance of resident women to accept partnerships with refugees is largely explained by their rejection of the ‘imported’ religious Islam. It is possible that resident women perceive the religious practices of newly arrived refugees as different from their own, reinforcing a social distance that limits intergroup partnerships. Moreover, this reluctance might not only reflect religious differences but also concerns about gender norms or perceived lifestyle incompatibilities.

Read his statement, then just watch what he actually said. Is he allergic to the truth?
Of course the overall majority of people arriving illegally on small boats are men - but not “north of 90%” as Reform claimed. On @bbcquestiontime I shared a story from my visit to the Border Security Command about a dinghy that arrived mostly carrying women, children and babies who had suffered horrific burns. I’m happy to clarify this given how this is now being misrepresented. Labour committed new funding this week to secure our borders while Reform have voted against giving our police the powers needed to smash the gangs fuelling this vile trade.

🚨Minneapolis Fed Joins ECB With #Bitcoin Attack 🚨 New Paper Claims Governments Can Run Permanent Deficits if Consumers Don't Notice & Adopt New Money Like BTC. Fantasizes About "Legal Prohibition" & Extra Taxes on BTC to Ensure Govt Debt Remains "Only Risk Free Security"
1/ This new paper is a true declaration of war: the ECB claims that early #bitcoin adopters steal economic value from latecomers. I strongly believe authorities will use this luddite argument to enact harsh taxes or bans. Check 🧵 for why:

Almost no-one will see an improvement in their offer. Even if you do, it’s a communist policy where mil housing is an extension of the welfare state. It’s a pay reduction for one to increase the pay of another. Concentrate on the real injustice: overall standard (incl SLA) 🧵

When I was a junior lawyer at a Big Law firm, my peers and I often used to wonder how the partners could treat us as they did. Sometimes, I’d arrive at the office on Monday, and not leave the building till Thursday, sleeping one or two hours a night on the floor under my desk, or not at all. We had people in our team fainting in the corridors, and falling downstairs from exhaustion, cracking ribs. Once, I worked for 48 hours without a break, and with no sleep at all. I would have done anything, and told anyone whatever they wanted to hear, if they'd just told me I could go to bed. We used to think the partners couldn’t possibly treat us like this if they thought we were human; and of course, we were right. We were looking at the question entirely the wrong way round. To the partners, we were not human; we were revenue-generating assets with a fixed cost base (our salaries), and we generated that revenue with our time. So the more revenue they got us to generate over time, the better for them. Only once we came to this realisation did it all make sense. In the same way, we tend to look at journalism the wrong way round. If we are labouring under the misconception that journalism is a search for truth, then articles like this from @jemimajoanna can be hard to comprehend. But when we realise that journalism is, fundamentally, no longer a search for truth, but for attention, then it becomes much easier to understand. We have also been looking at this question the wrong way round. Jemima is certainly winning attention for the @FT ; witness this post. QED! Jemima does ask “Is it time for the likes of me to admit we were wrong” about #Bitcoin. Although you can probably guess my answer to this, I actually wanted to address her conclusion, which is that in relation to #Bitcoin, “there is still no there there.” In her defence, Jemima has, like many of us, grown up in a world where digital scarcity is an oxymoron. Our whole lives, up to the invention of Bitcoin, have been filled with digital abundance, where anything digital can be endlessly replicated without cost. In such a world, it might be forgivable to think that everything digital or intangible behaves in the same way. Most intangible things do – if I send you an email, we both have the same copy, and other copies exist on servers across the internet. If I tell you an idea, we both have the same idea afterwards. But Bitcoin is not like this. If I have a Bitcoin, and send it to you, I cannot reverse that transaction, and I lose control of that Bitcoin forever. It cannot be replicated, and it cannot be copied. It is utterly unique, and in sending it, I have lost it. This is a poor analogy, but Bitcoin can be thought of as an email I can only send once, and a copy of which I cannot retain once sent. It is an idea that vanishes forever from my mind once I tell it to someone else. It is the discovery of digital scarcity in a world of endlessly copiable digital abundance, and we have never seen anything like it before. If your job, in any sense, involves the pursuit of truth and the exploration of new ideas, then you should seize the chance to explore and understand something like this with both hands. You should not let the chance slip away, or go on repeating the same facile points for more than a decade after the facts have proven you comprehensively and thoroughly wrong.

Hard pass on that "settlement." Just like Craig Wright forges documents and doesn't quite tell the truth, his description of the settlement offer isn't quite accurate either - it comes with loopholes that would allow him to sue people all over again.

You said rapists should be transferred to women's prisons if they self-identify as women. You called Women's Place UK a hate group. Given that you're one of the biggest reasons many women on the left no longer trust Labour to defend their rights, do you stand by those comments?
