MSNOW: What is your message now to Jewish voters nationally and what you will do to protect them? Abdul El-Sayed: I’m committed to Jewish safety, and we are united against discrimination. The U.S. spends billions to carry out genocide and apartheid against Palestinians. The genocide in Gaza with our complicity is continuing right now. Nobody wants to talk about that.

Posting a longer cut of Ron DeSantis dropping some truth bombs about the state of the Republican Party after last night's blue tsunami. Hard to argue with any of this to be honest.

🍀|He Said His Name. The Room Said It Back. That Is the Whole Defeat. Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed opened his victory speech by stating the name Trump spent months deliberately mangling. "My name is Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed." He said it in full. He said it as the Senator-elect from Michigan. He said it on stage with his wife Sarah beside him. He beat Mike Rogers, the former Republican congressman, taking roughly 51.8 per cent to Rogers' 46.2 when the race was called. He is the first Muslim elected to the United States Senate. He is also the first Democratic physician in the Senate since 1969. Now read what he did with the two Arabic phrases. That is the mechanism. "Up until right about now, you might have noticed I always say 'inshallah,' or 'God willing,' whenever the outcome of this race was mentioned. But today, tonight, we can turn that inshallah into alhamdulillah!" He took the phrase the far right had circulated as evidence of double-speak and turned it into the speech's punchline. During the primary, right-wing accounts stripped "inshallah" from context and built an anti-Muslim campaign around it, linking the phrase to claims about Sharia and immigration. El-Sayed's answer was not to defend the word. It was to finish the sentence: the outcome was willed, and now it is fulfilled. Trump's mockery is on the record, and it is not a slip. It is a pattern. At a rally in Dalton, Georgia, on 16 October 2026, Trump said: "His name is actually Abdullahalalalala baa ba ba Muhammad El-Sayed. So his middle name is Muhammad. I was right. almost." He added: "I'm the president. I can call you whatever the hell I want Muhammad." At a Columbus Day event in October 2026, he said some people call him Abdul but he prefers "Muhammad," adding "I don't know. I feel like it." At another rally, he said "Abdul baba, baba, bada, bah". He also called El-Sayed a "dangerous jihadist" and a "terrorist sympathizer," and amplified a claim tying El-Sayed's family to the Muslim Brotherhood. A Bridge Michigan fact-check found no evidence that El-Sayed personally pledged support to the organization. The smear was published anyway. The name-mangling was the delivery vehicle for it. El-Sayed's answer was not a plea for civility. It was a correction with a deadline attached. He addressed Vice President JD Vance directly, citing the constitutional obligation that Vance will administer the Senate oath in January. "There is this delicious irony in the fact that you're constitutionally obligated to swear me in in January." Then he turned to Trump: "Donald, look, I know you struggled with my name. So after JD swears me in in January, you can just go on and call me senator." That is the sentence that matters. He did not ask Trump to pronounce it correctly. He told Trump the title will make the pronunciation irrelevant. The race underneath the name-mockery. Michigan was the target, not the man. Michigan holds the largest Arab-American population in the United States. Dearborn sits inside it. Rashida Tlaib represents Michigan's 12th district. In the 2024 Democratic primary, the "uncommitted" movement in Michigan drew over 100,000 votes against Biden over Gaza, a protest vote in a state that decides presidential elections. El-Sayed ran as a progressive on universal health care, getting "money out of politics," and an end to US complicity in Gaza. He won in a state Trump narrowly carried in 2024. He drew large crowds even in deeply conservative Republican areas. His victory came despite an eleventh-hour betrayal: Congresswoman Haley Stevens, who lost the Democratic primary to El-Sayed, endorsed Rogers at the last moment. The Republicans ran a scorched-earth campaign branding him a communist and a terrorist who would endanger Americans. He won anyway. The buried layer: the first Muslim senator is also the first senator elected on a platform of ending the Gaza complicity. El-Sayed's campaign was not merely about representation. His stated foreign policy position was that US money should not fund "apartheid, or genocide, or war". That position was on the ballot in a battleground state, and it won. That is the file the corporate press will soften. The Democratic Party's leadership voted for the $26.4 billion** supplemental and the annual **$3.3 billion in the NDAA. It confirmed the officials who shipped the bombs. It will not break the veto. El-Sayed's seat does not change the appropriations bill. But it changes the arithmetic inside the party. A senator from Michigan, with the Arab-American electorate that decides the state, is now a vote the leadership must manage. He can attach conditions. He can force recorded votes. He can make the party's pro-entity consensus visible in a chamber where it was previously automatic. The contradiction, and it is not a slogan. Trump told a rally that he could call a man "whatever the hell I want". That man is now Senator-elect Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed. The President will be in office when the Senate convenes in January. The Vice President will administer the oath. The name that was mocked is the name that will be entered in the Senate record. The phrase that was circulated as a smear inshallah became the setup for alhamdulillah. The bill. A physician who ran the Detroit health department through the Flint crisis. A Rhodes Scholar and Columbia-trained doctor. A progressive who won a battleground state that Trump carried. The first Muslim in the upper chamber. Trump spent months mocking the name. El-Sayed spent the campaign building a majority. On election night, he said the name in full, told the President to call him senator, and closed with the word the smear campaign had tried to weaponize. The name is on the ballot. The seat is in the Senate. The pronunciation will be corrected by the title.

“He’s right! We’re not at the negotiating table right now. Do you know why, Mr. Speaker? Because we walked away when it was in Canada’s interest to show the Americans that we weren’t going to accept a bad deal.” After @PierrePoilievre's theatrics, @StevenMacKinnon gave him the smackdown!
