This was a brave fight by Sandie Peggie and whilst the outcome may not be what she hoped, she should know the respect she has earned for standing up for the right of nursing staff to feel safe in single sex spaces and to be able to express views on biological sex. Thank you to all those continuing this fight including the @DarlingtonUnion .
The dismissal today of Sandie Peggie’s case against the Royal College of Nursing should concern every healthcare professional who believes in biological reality. Bethany Hutchison, President of the Darlington Nursing Union, said: “Sandie’s story shows why healthcare professionals need a union that understands their convictions before a crisis begins. “The court’s decision does not erase the fears and lawful beliefs of nurses who believe their union may not represent them robustly when disputes involve biological sex and gender identity. “Sandie’s experience shows how vulnerable a nurse can become when trust in union representation breaks down. “Gender-critical nurses deserve representation from a union whose starting point is clear: biological sex is real, freedom of belief matters, and lawful single-sex protections must be defended. “The Darlington Nursing Union exists to provide that representation. We will stand firmly alongside our members, seek early and effective resolutions, and defend them robustly if a dispute escalates. "Our members should never have to question whether their union shares a commitment to defending their lawful rights." Join the Darlington Nursing Union by contacting [email protected]

There is a deep, dark irony that lies a the heart of the Conversion Practices Bill, that will play out. If passed, the law will end up being the largest ever driver of conversion practices for gay and lesbian young people. It will have far more negative impact that Section 28.

A lot of us were very willing to have a debate without heat, @stonewalluk, and the reason that never happened wasn't because gender critical feminists didn't want one. While we were trying to get you to listen to our concerns, your former CEO was telling a BBC boss that gay people not wanting to include the opposite sex in their dating pool was 'sexual racism'. While we were pointing out the homophobia inherent in gender ideology, Stonewall ambassador Alex Drummond (a bearded, heterosexual man who'd had no surgery and taken no cross-sex hormones but liked wearing skirts), was going into schools to talk to students about his 'lesbian' identity. @BluskyeAllison, who actually is a lesbian, was subject to unlawful discrimination at her place of work for tweeting: ‘Stonewall recently hired Morgan Page, a male bodied person who ran workshops with the sole aim of coaching heterosexual men who identify as lesbians on how they can coerce young lesbians into having sex with them. Page called [it] “overcoming the cotton ceiling”.’ When the UK Supreme Court upheld women's right to single sex spaces, you issued a statement expressing your unhappiness about the ruling. In her report on your unhappy influence at the University of Essex, you were found by barrister @akuareindorf to have misrepresented the law as it related to women's rights: '[Stonewall have] stated the law as Stonewall would prefer it to be, rather than the law as it is’. In 2018, you publicly advised schools to shred a research pack saying there were risks to puberty blockers, in spite of the fact that you aren't a medical charity and that there was already credible evidence that puberty blockers are neither irreversible nor harm-free. Meanwhile you produced your own educational packs, recommending a children's book, for ages 5-9, in which the parent 'is neither a man, nor a woman – they’re non-binary.' In July 2022, Stonewall sent out a tweet that read ‘Research suggests that children as young as two recognise their trans identity'. @thetimes has reported how you've sought to control the language used by NHS trusts and government on their social-media accounts. Organisations would get points from you for replacing commonly understood words with ideologically approved terms, eg, 'birthing parent' instead of 'mother'. thetimes.com/uk/society/arti… In short, you took a maximalist position on gender identity ideology, which you attempted to enforce by diktat. You refused to acknowledge that you'd hitched your wagon to a cause that, unlike civil rights, gay rights or women's rights, sought to strip rights from others. You sought to curtail everyone's right to freedom of speech and belief by controlling what it was permissible to think and say, through the management and political class. You have argued against women's and girl's rights to their own spaces, their sports and to assemble without men. Your former CEO tried to shame gay women/men into dating the opposite sex if the latter claimed to be female/male. Your mantra was 'no debate' because, like all totalitarians, you preferred slogans, bullying and infiltration of powerful institutions to talking to opponents. You appear to have had no concern for the lowly people your ideology was harming: gender confused kids, female rape victims, female prisoners, regular people hounded and investigated at their places of work for refusing to accept the new mandates on sex and gender issued from on high. Your 'activism' has been a disaster for those trans-identified people who really do just want to get on with their lives in peace. You have besmirched the name of an organisation many of us were once proud to donate to, the charity that was partly responsible for securing the legal right of gay people to marry, which a lot of us thought would never happen in our lifetimes. The milquetoast words quoted below do not erase a decade of gender activism that has been disastrous not only for individuals but for society as a whole. There was once a debate to be had, but until you acknowledge the direct harm you've caused, it is no more possible to debate you than to persuade a person in the throes of a drug-induced psychosis that they are not, in fact, the reincarnated Christ.

I’ve never told any trans person what they ‘should be.’ As far as I’m concerned, trans people can call themselves whatever they like and believe whatever they like about themselves. What trans people aren’t entitled to is universal agreement that they’ve changed sex, acclaim for their embodiment of sex stereotypes, the reconfiguration of laws around an objective untruth or women’s surrender of their sex-based rights.

First up is Pat Harvey, the former Chair of the BPS Division of Clinical Psychology and co-founder of bpswatch.com/ and @psychsocwatchuk. She outlines how @BPSOfficial has taken an ideological approach to psychological services over the idea that humans can change sex and advises: "There is no open forum in the BPS. This is because The Psychologist magazine editor operates a censorship policy, one which has been supported by his editorial board. Under the section Diverse Voices he printed an approving account of a toddler in Brighton being raised so that its sex is concealed from the extended family and social group as well as itself." This is a very obvious safeguarding failure. 2/7

Gender ideology breaks everything.
I genuinely think we’re underestimating the significance of this. I’m willing to be corrected, but according to AI, not a single democracy in the world allows trigger warnings into the parliamentary record. There are recognised, established rules on permissible language. But that’s it. And yet yesterday they broke with 223 years of established convention without a thought. So is it now the rule and will we see trigger warnings everywhere? Or has an exception been made specifically for “this” and if so, why?

Been quite the day. Grateful to Parliament for letting us speak and to Helen and Dermot for being such effective advocates. This bill is dangerous and it will criminalise innocent parents. It cannot be amended into civility. It must be defeated.

This is such an important point from Joyce. "If my husband takes my phone away from me as an adult, that's coercive control, if I do that to my child that might be responsible parenting" That's one of the many problems with the conversion bill, it treats children like adults.
“If my husband takes my phone away from me because he doesn’t want me contacting people, that’s coercive control. If I do that to my child, that maybe responsible parenting” Well said @HJoyceGender! #BinTheBill

I want you all to know this. There are 650 MPs in Parliament. Yet the one MP chosen by @UKLabour to Chair the Bill Committee for the controversial, dangerous and dismally bad draft legislation, the Conversion Practices Bill, is Alex Barros-Curtis. Until July 2024, when Alex was given a very safe Labour seat in Cardiff, he was the Head of the Labour Party's Governance and Legal Unit in London. This was a department set up to investigate complaints against members of the Labour Party. Complaints of antisemitism, Islamophobia, abuse, and of course latterly, mostly women holding legally-protected 'Gender Critical' (sex realist) beliefs. Alex oversaw the investigation of hundreds of members who liked or tweeted gender critical or feminist views. I was one of them. He investigated me, as a sitting Labour MP, for 13 months. 13 months to 'investigate' one like of one tweet. I had a great lawyer, one of the names we're all now familiar with, and I had to crowdfund to pay for his (excellent) work. They first tried in 2020. But the screenshots crudely attached to that passive aggressive, threatening-sounding email from LP admin staff were so risible that I replied that it was too ridiculous for me to waste my precious time on. They left it. Years of Starmer bumbling and stuttering through interviews about whether he had spoken to me, whether he supported me, etc followed. My feminist sins continued apace. And then I 'liked' a tweet by my GC comedian friend @Glinner. He had mocked Eddie'Suzy' for comparing his choice to wear traditional women's clothing, fake plastic breasts and nails, to those being persecuted by the Nazis during WWII. I found his sarcasm, as a award-winning comedy writer in the face of such offensive narcissism amusing and so 'liked' it. I found it absurd and obscene that Izzard, an extremely privileged and wealthy man, who openly changed his 'gender' at will, should write himself into history falseley as someone who would have been oppressed due to a circumstance beyond his control. We all know the groups who were tortured, starved and killed... There is obviously more to my story, I will tell it all, it's just one chapter of the years of spiteful abusive and bullying practices meted out to me by the Labour Party managers. Not those who'd achieved office on merit, or even unexpectedly, but those in the club, often having failed to be elected themselves. So Barros-Curtis who we were repeatedly told led 'the many *independent* inquiries into women members and MPs like me, now often stands as a trans-rights activist on the Labour backbenches. He has also been gifted the role of Chair of this Committee and is a huge supporter of this Bill. And I am not a part of the Bill Committee, although plenty of TRA MPs are. Does that sound like the democratic scrutiny of legislation to you?

Listening to the Conversion Practices Committee today has reinforced my concern that the wellbeing of detransitioners is simply not being considered by the Government. It is deeply worrying to hear discussions that appear to overlook the significant impact this Bill could have on detransitioners, our ability to speak openly about our experiences, and the support we need to move forward with our lives. Our lived experiences matter. We must be given the opportunity to have our voices heard, particularly when legislation could directly affect our ability to access appropriate therapy, process our experiences, recover and rebuild our lives. A Bill intended to protect people must not come at the expense of silencing another group who are already too often overlooked. I am therefore calling on the Government to ensure that detransitioners are included in any discussions, consultations or working groups seeking lived experience. Our voices must be heard, our experiences must be acknowledged, and our wellbeing must be taken seriously. @DPUK26 @ABarrosCurtis @oliviabaileymp @DannyBeales @NazShahBfd

Appalling rubbish from the utterly trans-captured @TheBMA. They represent doctors who are supposed to treat the over half of the population who are female, yet show absolutely zero appreciation of our need for single-sex facilities. Shocking.
bma.org.uk/news-and-opinion/… The BMA has been kind enough to provide their musings on the NHS deciding to abide by the law. Word frequency analysis: *Trans - 15 *Enbies - 9 *Women - 0

jkrowling.com/opinions/an-up… This is every bit as powerful and crystal clear as we would expect. Thank you, @jk_rowling , for everything you do for us. The women that favour gender ID over feminism will soon realise that you do it for them too, regardless. I could not love you more:

📨 In response to the email received by UNISON members at @LeedsHospitals today we've written to the author, the LGBT+ Officer @UNISONLTHNHS ❓ Our question is simple: where is UNISON's advocacy for women? ⚖️ Where was the outrage when women faced investigations for defending single-sex spaces? 🚫 Where was the solidarity when women were labelled bigots for stating that sex matters? 👭 Where was the support for lesbians whose boundaries and same-sex attraction were routinely dismissed? Women deserve answers. We'll share any response we receive. #WomensRights #SexMatters #NHS
