It's sad to have to constantly point this out these days, but Yu Deng and Hong Wang were born in China and are professors at the University of Chicago and NYU. We should do everything we can to nurture our homegrown talent and primary and higher education, but the reason the United States has had the scientific edge over other countries, including China, is because we have always attracted their best and brightest and incentivized them to stay. From Hans Bethe to C .S Wu, from Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar to Katalin Karikó, we have attracted world-class talent that has made and kept America great. The day we stop doing that we lose that greatness.

🔥Hot off the press: Yuxuan Miao, PhD (@YMphoenix) and team have published a new study in @Cancer_Cell revealing how cancer-initiating stem cells support nearby neutrophils by supplying arachidonic acid—ultimately driving resistance to immunotherapy.

This year’s medicine laureate Shimon Sakaguchi discovered a new class of T cells.
Sakaguchi was swimming against the tide in 1995, when he made a key discovery. At the time, many researchers were convinced that immune tolerance only developed due to potentially harmful immune cells being eliminated in the thymus, through a process called central tolerance.
Sakaguchi showed that the immune system is more complex and discovered a previously unknown class of immune cells, which protect the body from autoimmune diseases.
