"I have nothing to hide" is a great line until you remember you have curtains, a phone PIN, and a lock on the bathroom door. Privacy isn't hiding. It's choosing.

The EU swore its digital ID wallet would be voluntary. The law says so in writing. Regulation 2024/1183 promises that people who refuse the wallet will not be restricted or disadvantaged in any way.
Now the EU’s anti-money laundering authority has told banks to use electronic ID “wherever possible.” Video checks and selfie verification are still allowed, but only as an exception. Any bank that onboards you without the wallet has to justify that choice to its supervisor and keep the images, video, and audio on file for later inspection.
Customers who use the wallet need no further checks. Customers who don’t become paperwork, liability, and a conversation with a regulator. Banks can do that math.
Nobody is being forced to use the wallet. Your bank is simply being given every reason to make sure you do. The wallet is voluntary in the same way a bank account is.

If a firm's AI customer-service chatbot gives false information, traps customers in doom loops, or fails to actually help, that firm may be violating the law.
A new brief from the Center for Law & the Economy's @stephtngu and @BorrowerJustice's Adam Teitelbaum explains the various laws that apply when businesses outsource customer service to AI chatbots.
This is the first in a series explaining how existing laws apply to AI: law-and-economy.law.columbia…

this was unfortunately very predictable, even years ago when I first saw Google Lens, and will take all the fun out of the internet when no one can make goofy videos at home anymore... #privacymatters
New: an AI company now lets cops identify specific houses, using data from Zillow/Airbnb, based on a single photo. It's part of Raven, previously called Geospy. Company previously demoed its tools to catch people vandalizing Flock cameras or protesters

Tech creators exploit a core design principle: defaults are sticky. Most users never change them, allowing companies to set defaults that maximize data collection and sharing, often against user intent. #TechDesign #Privacy
