Today on World CRISPR Day, we would like to highlight our two chemistry laureates Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier. In 2012, they developed a method for high-precision gene editing, which has transformed the field of biotechnology and medicine. The genetic scissors became known as CRISPR/Cas9. In 2020 their breakthrough was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Watch this interview of Doudna explaining how CRISPR has evolved since then: bit.ly/3U5DTNQ

“I am addressing young people here who are aspiring to be leaders. It is in your capacity, in your ability, in every possibility, to give your life a purpose and to make a choice. A choice that you know if you have made it, it is not just going to be confined to your life, but has impact on other people’s lives. That is why it’s important when people are talking about why we should work together, continentally. Because not working together, what purpose does it serve? Who benefits from it? I just want to say, give it a try, you fail, you make a loss here, you make a gain here, but you stay the course. Keep going.” President Kagame | Africa Mindset Reset Forum 2026

“Self-reliance is in many aspects, it’s not just in technology and different systems. Self-reliance goes into other areas, even of governance. In Rwanda there are so many things we have done in areas of governance and service delivery, some people will wonder whether we don’t have more resources than we are known for. How does a poor country get to be here? That is delivered by that mindset of self-reliance. Do whatever you can within your means, there are people who have the means and they can’t deliver. In fact, some people have a lot, in terms of means and they don’t deliver much. It’s a question of how do you want to approach the problem, it doesn’t matter the size. Rwanda is not by any standard a big country, we are one of the smallest countries in the world but that does not stop us looking around for what we can do within our means, and doing it.” President Kagame | Press Conference

Minister @nsanzimanasabin and Minister @MusoniPaula hosted @BillGates at Rwanda’s National Health Intelligence Center (NHIC) to showcase how centralized, real-time data is transforming healthcare delivery across the country. Since its launch, NHIC has unified national health data to shift public policy from reactive to proactive—delivering concrete impact across the entire care continuum by: ⏱️ Reducing patient wait times at health facilities; 🚑 Streamlining emergency dispatch and ambulance response times; 🛡️ Elevating disease surveillance and containment; 🎯 Optimizing targeted resource allocation. Looking ahead, partnership with the @GatesFoundation will enable NHIC to scale its operations—expanding capabilities toward predictive health intelligence to anticipate outbreaks, issue intelligent early-warning alerts, and prevent health threats before they escalate. By leveraging modern technologies and consolidating national health data, Rwanda continues to strengthen its ability to deliver high-quality, efficient, and responsive care for all.

“Today, connectivity is no longer the end goal. We are now transitioning to the era of data-driven growth. Artificial intelligence is the common denominator that will redefine healthcare, education and energy, among many other sectors. As a commission, our mission is to ensure this transformation does not widen existing divisions. The task ahead of us is urgent, but we will face challenges. The objective isn’t just to have a conversation. It is to ensure everything we agree to do, gets translated into tangible and practical outcomes.” President Kagame President Kagame joined fellow Co-Chair Marc Benioff and Vice-Chair Doreen Bogdan-Martin for a fireside chat marking the launch of the AI for Good Global Commission. He then chaired the Commission’s inaugural meeting alongside Marc Benioff and Doreen Bogdan-Martin. The high-level initiative brings together 44 commissioners to identify practical ways to harness artificial intelligence to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

“Artificial intelligence has the power to transform lives and strengthen economies. Africa is well-positioned to contribute to the digital economy. By 2050, our continent will have the largest, fastest-growing workforce in the world. There are many success stories about what our young people are doing on the continent with artificial intelligence. We have to invest in them. It will be a win-win for everyone. The bottom line, is that for A.I. to serve humanity as a whole, we must get it right in Africa and everywhere else.” President Kagame | #AIforGood Global Summit 2026

“We went through a very dark chapter. But is that who we were meant to be? Is that what Rwandans wanted for themselves? Even if some people at the time wanted it that way, our responsibility today is to say: no. It is our history, but it is not who we should have been, and it is not who we should become. That is what liberation means. It means that, as Rwandans, we freed ourselves. You live for what you truly believe in, to the point where, if necessary, you are ready to die for it. That is where Rwanda stands today, whether some people like it or not.” President Kagame | Unity Club Meeting.
