I don’t support Supreme Court expansion because what if the GOP does it back. Then they could strike down the Voting Rights Act and overturn Roe v. Wade

January 6, 2021 was my fourth day on Capitol Hill.
I thought it would end the Trump era.
Five years later, it’s clear it began something much darker.

Just an incredible piece from Israel's oldest running newspaper, Haaretz. The kind of writing that would certainly result in accusation of anti-semitism in the US. It's paywalled so I cut and pasted the whole op-ed into tweets below. It's worth the read. THREAD

The thing about America is you can be talking to a nice old lady seated next to you on the plane and next thing you know she pulls out a copy of Killing Jesus by Bill O’Reilly
Biden can still cancel student debt using his authority under the Higher Education Act, the same authority he and Trump have used to suspend payments and interest accrual

BREAKING: The Supreme Court rejects the Biden administration's student loan forgiveness plan. The HEROES Act does NOT authorize student loan cancelation, Roberts holds for the 6-3 court, finding that Missouri has standing. Kagan writes the dissent. supremecourt.gov/opinions/22…
Mitch McConnell broke every rule to ram through 3 Justices who are now shredding precedent in order to cook the planet and make things worse for everyone who isn’t a wealthy straight white man.
The President’s response has been to unilaterally disarm
Who will introduce the TORRES Act to require candidates to disclose their major donors for whom they’re running interference with the SEC mere months before that donor is charged with committing massive fraud
There is no greater indictment of New York Democrats than the fact that George Santos will be in the 118th Congress, and Mondaire Jones will not.
Me to my parents when I didn't want to go to Hebrew school
“I never claimed to be Jewish,” Santos said. “I said I was `Jew-ish.'”
George Santos, GOP congressman-elect, admits some lies and tries to spin others. nypost.com/2022/12/26/rep-el…
This argument is stupid for the same reason it would be stupid for Democrats not to compete in Senate cycles when they don’t expect to win a majority.
Majorities are built through small, compounding victories over years, sometimes decades.

And also: There's clearly something lost if you replace Kagan and Sotomayor. Both are powerful, and distinct, voices for a progressive judicial vision. I'd trade that for controlling the court in 2035, I guess, but I wouldn't trade it for the marginal benefits of 3–6 over 2–7.
The #RespectForMarriageAct is great, but there’s lots of misinformation out there about it, like the below.
It codifies Windsor, not Obergefell. Meaning if SCOTUS were to overturn the latter, dozens of state bans on marriage equality would again be law.
There’s more to be done.
Does anyone else find it kind of troublesome that people who urged the overthrow of American democracy continue to serve in government
TPM EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) in a text to Mark Meadows, 3 days before Biden's inauguration:
"Our LAST HOPE is invoking Marshall Law!! PLEASE URGE TO PRESIDENT TO DO SO!!"

.@Lawler4NY, who is set to represent one of the most Jewish districts in the country, has been silent after Donald Trump legitimized two virulent antisemites.
Is this how he’s going to represent us?
He *is* the guy behind the 2019 “storm is brewing” ad that used white nationalist tropes, so he’s not exactly uncomfortable weaponizing antisemitism for political gain.
