Announcing FirstMass.net, the first crowd-sourced project (that I know of) showing when & where Mass was first said in each part of what would come to be known as the United States of America!
Have a look-see. Know of an early mass? Submit it! I'll review, edit, post!
Heโs so annoying now. Wants his friction-free global marketplace but none of the politics or interest that come with it. โOther countries are just for interesting products we shouldnโt think of them beyond thatโ
Diocese of the Day is the Diocese of Des Moines Iowa. Founded in 1911, Des Moines covers the southwest corner of Iowa and counts 107k Catholics across 79 parishes. The Diocese is served by 43 priests and 59 deacons. Cathedral is St Ambrose Cathedral, dedicated 1891!
Posted a new First Mass. This one was said by Belgian Jesuit Fr Helias in 1838 for four German families in frontier Missouri land prior to the Civil War. He's got a few masses in this region; I'll probably research more and give him an expedition page.
Diocese of Jefferson City Missouri has some excellent history pages. We love to see it. Much of this researched by a Sr. Loretta Pastva, SND, who wrote a book on Catholic parish development in 2006. diojeffcity.org/about-us/hisโฆ

Racism is first and foremost an evil against one's neighbor, but it's also a type of self-harm, a vulgar denigration of the spirit, an internal hollowing out the effects of which upon the racist are truly pathetic

Imagine what kind of person sees this and thinks "wow, massive implications for search & rescue!"
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.
By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.
Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.

My friends were all talking about prepping so I made a survival LLM. A free app that runs an AI mdoel plus 1.5 million offline articles (medical guides, FEMA, survival manuals, wikipedia) entirely on your computer. No internet needed.

A personal word about Archbishop Grob: Having worked in the Archdiocese of Chicago for nearly 30 years, I know +Jeff Grob. He was a renowned pastor, judicial vicar, and Auxiliary Bishop to Cardinal Cupich. He is one of the most kind, humble, and sincere individuals I have known. This political environment is toxic and he found himself in a really bad situation. I accept his heartfelt apology, and am hopeful others will too.
NEED MORE CATHOLIC MAPS
A Japanese Catholic has created a remarkable interactive map of Catholic parishes throughout Japan.
From Hokkaido to Okinawa, hundreds of churches are marked on the map.
What an extraordinary undertaking, and what a valuable resource for anyone interested in the Catholic Church in Japan.
Thank you, @y_kohaku_a, for sharing your work!

BREAKING: Brazilโs election authority has declared President Lula the mathematically certain winner of the presidential runoff, giving him a fourth term.
With 97.69% of polling sections counted, Lula (PT) has 51.74% and Flรกvio Bolsonaro (PL) has 48.26%.
That puts Lula ahead by about 4.2 million votes.

90 days would be incredibly bad for the civilian population. People would not have food, water or medicine. Iโm not one to buy into hype but these warnings are coming from all sides and Iโm concerned.
FORTRESS: The Pentagon is preparing every major U.S. military base to survive 90 days without outside support โ no civilian power grid, no global supply chains, no outside fuel or water.
The initiative, revealed in documents reviewed by Fox News Digital, envisions portable nuclear reactors, massive battery storage, and microgrids that can disconnect installations from civilian electricity entirely. Strategic reserves of munitions, fuel, critical minerals, and medical supplies would be stockpiled based on wartime consumption rates. Civilian factories are being pre-identified to shift to defense production during a crisis.
Pentagon chief spokesperson Sean Parnell put it bluntly: "Power is combat now. Without electricity, you lose communications, water, logistics, assembly lines and just basic military command structures."

It's funny AI made programmers obsolete first. As an infrastructure guy, I always perceived they were the elite. They built their applications on the (compute/storage/network) road I constructed. Even once in the cloud, they still needed me
I'm sure it'll come for me soon too

Thereโd be more of us studying history, philosophy, art etc.. if theyโd stop bombarding everyone with easy access vices like sports gambling, porn and short form TikTok gossip videos.

Many Catholics today don't know that at the time of the Protestant Reformation & early European expansion in the Americas, Catholic Christendom wasn't just European but extended into Central Africa.
AI haters are fine I get the skepticism. But I wouldn't have been able to build first Mass without it.
With AI coding tools, I did it in a day and now I'm spreading that First Mass knowledge. It got the technology out of my way so I could tell that story.
If there's no money in humanities now (there isn't), then AI isn't going to fix that.
If we capture some % of the productive economic output of AI & redistribute it, humanities could suddenly enjoy quite a renaissance as people suddenly have time to pursue it.
