Wish no ill on the great progress of a club like AFCB, but something feels very broken with football's overall model - one that allows Premier League clubs to be so dominant against the backdrop of the Man City saga and resulting inflated financial ecosystem.

Supposing Carrick isn't actually the main problem at a club that keeps swinging from one manager to another...?

I remember when Ron Atkinson's Man Utd side lost 4-1 to Southampton in the Littlewoods Cup*. There are always worse times. (*He got sacked the next day)

When you read about how Tony Bloom or Matthew Benham operate, it's no wonder that Brighton and Brentford are so well run. Both clubs are built on a proprietary methodology that's led by the ownership downwards. That creates a data-driven culture that's near impossible for other clubs to manufacture. The owner is the most important person at the club. A hands-on owner should either be an elite operator themselves or elite at selecting and empowering other operators, not an investor with a seat at the decision-making table.

substack.com/home/post/p-219… For this week's helping of Boys on Film, the Phantom Flan Flinger brings us the shock and awe that was the 1978 'The World About Us' documentary, in which the BBC followed West Bromwich Albion's tour of China. A truly glorious hour of television.

Do yourself (and us all) a favour. Bin off aggregator accounts. Don't follow them, don't like or share. Report them for plagiarism. Then get rid. They draw breath from an industry they're simultaneously running down. You'd miss the industry because they'd have nothing to share

I never ever want to see any of this again. The acronym, the current 'leader' (would probably be 7th or 8th in this list), the concept of it, all of it. Stop this.
