Wins in the High Court in Pretoria in the AM - alongside our friends at @amaBhungane, @dailymaverick and @_FreeExpression - and in the High Court in Johannesburg in the PM. Both strenghten press freedom, accountability and transparency.

Had it not been for the media and civil society, the public would have had no knowledge that this trial was proceeding or how it is being conducted. Well done to our co-applicants, @News24 @dailymaverick @amaBhungane and our spectacular legal team.

That is not what is being asked for. We recognise that there may be legitimate national security concerns relating to particular witnesses and evidence. But non-disclosure must be narrowly carved and properly justified. As our highest court has long held.

More moves to keep the state of the SSA, its conduct and decisions outside of public scrutiny. Of course there are instances where national security considerations may demand non-disclosure. But following Zondo and HLRP, surely the imperative of scrutiny must weigh heaviest.
HAPPENING NOW: Madlanga Commission evidence leaders are applying for testimony about what SA intelligence authorities knew about criminal infiltration of law enforcement to be heard in camera (secret). @amaBhungane, @dailymaverick and @News24 are opposing this.

Remember now: Refugee law is part of international law. Y’all can’t be celebrating her prize AND trying to chop through the doors of the Constitutional Court with machetes because its judges tell Home Affairs to process asylum applications properly.
“Let me dedicate this award to all of the survivors of international crimes as well as to practitioners and defenders of international justice whose passion and courage continue to ensure that impunity will not be allowed to reign.” Today Navi Pillay, judge and human rights defender, was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for her tireless dedication to upholding international law.
