🌿 A little Sunday evening daydreaming...
These photos from our Italian Dolomites holidays have us wondering: if you could wake up tomorrow anywhere in the world for a day of wildlife watching, where would you choose?
And what would you most hope to see?

Did you know that not all Bee Orchids (Ophrys species) mimic bees?
Meet Ophrys blitopertha, a unique Mediterranean orchid pollinated by a Scarab Beetle (Blitopertha lineolata).
These photos, captured in Rhodes, Greece, show this remarkable relationship in action!

🌸 Despite heavy rain, our Crete group added Colchicum macrophyllum & C. balansae today. First recorded on Crete in 2022, C. balansae is known from just one location. Thanks to our local botanical contacts for sharing the site with us 🙏

🌿 Two special finds on our Crete holiday today: Biarum davisii, a rare Cretan endemic, and Muscari parviflorum, the Autumn Grape Hyacinth — very rare on the island.

🌸 Day 1 of our Crete in Autumn tour, exploring the White Mountains!
Today’s highlights included: Crocus pumilus, Colchicum cretense, Allium tardans and Narcissus obsoletus. The first three are endemic, thus grow naturally nowhere else but Crete.
A lovely start to our week!

A dream photograph for me today!
A beewolf in flight predating a honeybee and just about to drop into its nest hole (bottom left)
In the nest the paralysed bee will be sealed into a chamber with an egg. Well I’m guessing you have seen “Alien”…

🦋 Why do butterflies gather on damp ground?
Mud-puddling allows butterflies to take up moisture, salts & other nutrients.
Sometimes hundreds gather together - spectacular behaviour we’re fortunate to encounter on many of our Greenwings butterfly holidays.
