Demanding that you stay in the country for two years post-house job should be illegal, and I hope the ARD isn’t seeing it as some sort of victory.
If this passes, the goalposts will shift some years down the line. It’s just crazy how MDCN can come up with whatever they want.
UPDATE ON THE FIVE-YEAR REQUIREMENT FOR CERTIFICATE OF GOOD STANDING
Dear Colleagues,
On the issue of the reported five-year requirement for the issuance of a Certificate of Good Standing, I have engaged the relevant authorities as promised and obtained some clarification as follows:
Prescribed Requirement: The requirement is two years after full registration, with the period of NYSC included in the two years. Therefore, the reported five-year requirement is not what has been prescribed.
Colleagues Affected: Any colleague who has encountered a five-year requirement on their portal is requested to confirm this and reach out immediately so that the matter can be properly addressed.
Further Engagement: We understand that the decision was taken by the Council. We intend to engage the Council further during our courtesy visit to obtain additional clarification and address any concerns from colleagues who are uncomfortable with the current position.
We remain committed to constructive engagement with the relevant authorities to ensure clarity, fairness, and the protection of the interests of all our members.
Thank you.

Once again, we’re missing the point. A lot of the suggestions on TL are things like “get into residency” or “you don’t need COGS for this pathway or that pathway.” That’s not the issue here.
Doctors should be able to get their COGS post HJ without it costing an arm and a leg.

The advice to the COGS issue cannot be to encourage Doctors to write primaries and enter into residency.
This is why most of our people are so docile.
Zero ability to organize and challenge silly policies.
They’d rather choose to adjust or adapt.
That adaptability is a curse

Nigerian Medical Association @nationalnma,
I alerted you to the rumours that MDCN requires two years of medical practice, before COGS is released.
Now, it is allegedly FIVE YEARS?
Are you not going to ask questions?
YOUR SILENCE IS COMPLICITY.
Nigerian Medical Association @nationalnma,
I hereby draw ur attention to rumours that MDCN requires two years of medical practice, before COGS is released.
If u didn’t know, now u know.
YOUR SILENCE IS UNACCEPTABLE.

People replying this with “I thought it was 2 years” are killing me💀
If 2 years becomes successful, what’s stopping it from being 15?

This whole thing is beyond ridiculous!
@MDCNOfficial this makes no sense!

We can't keep quiet about this COGS thing. They can't force us to stay in this country for up to 5 years post grad.

MDCN is now restricting the issuance of Certificate of Good Standing to 5 years post graduation from medical school.
In other words, they won't verify your licence to practise to register or practise as a doctor in another country until 5 years after graduating from medical sch

Dear @MDCNigeria, please clarify reports that doctors must have over 2 years of work experience to obtain a Certificate of Good Standing (COGS). Is this an official requirement, and does internship count? We would like tohave written proof of this so we know how to move forward.

the most underrated act of kindness is letting people be. let them mispronounce a word, talk too much about a show they love, or get excited about something you don't understand. everyone has something that lights them up. let them shine, even if it's not your thing.
