Just like Amazon are the economy Just like Google ate the economy Just like Microsoft ate the economy Just like IBM ate the economy Just like GE ate the economy Just like….

Eh, it’s simultaneously pointless while we’re in the present free-for-all but almost inevitable if one AI lab basically eats the whole US economy. But the frontier labs all grasp this, though, and realize there’s a vast distance between insane profitability and absolute power.

We have made hundreds of videos from our phones over the past few weeks. No generative AI video. Everything rendered from code. Every edit done with precise intent. This is the future of vibe coding. No more shipping slop apps, only video maxxing now.

Yes, it is, in the same way that everyone having a handgun in their house is a terrible allocation of resources when the government can make bigger, better guns. But Sam seems to fail to understand why we're willing to be a little bit inefficient sometimes. In other words, come and try to take it, fucker.
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources ā€œa lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of thatā€

Why disturb Google for a moron. No research needed when the original quote already does the work. Household chores as a justification for adultery doesn’t become research just because an extramarital dating app ran a survey.

You do not turn your brain off. You move the cognitive load from one set of problems you had to solve to another set of problems that can now occupy your attention. Just like how once a calculator can perform all math operations for you, you stop calculating by hand and start focusing on a different part of the problem. I’m sure there are a small sunset of people who automated their work and are playing video games, but the vast majority of AI users are working more and longer hours.
Unless you have very specific mental traits if you work closely with AI you basically just turn your brain off at some point and start depending on it to do literally everything for you

If you look at the history of the rise of new platforms you see an interesting trend: 1. A new platform comes alive, and the leading player appears to be the front runner in all the subsequent innovations sprouting from that platform 2. A whole host of new products and services not associated with the leading player appears anyway They’re not stupid. At the end of the day a business is designed to do a few activities incredibly well, often to the detriment of other activities. Some businesses are so different from how you operate that you simply can’t get the organization to compete effectively. And if you try to in too many diverse spaces you’ll dilute your advantage and allow an opening for a competitor to do what you’re doing but more focused. We don’t know where that line for AI exists, though. So we’re going to have to go through a few iterations of startups to figure out where the lab’s advantage end and the rest of the market begins.
There are no moats, Anthropic and OpenAI are gonna come for your startup 99% of the time If you do ā€œAI for XYZā€ they’re coming for you. Don’t trust Dario and Sam when they promise you you’re safe, you’re not. Unless you’re doing hard tech at this point, they’re not your friend

Bro, they have an 80% profit margin on API pricing. Inference is incredibly profitable. In truth, your $200 a month is getting you $1,000 in inference, maybe. Not to mention, there's going to be about a billion service providers trying to undercut them. You're going to be swimming in tokens.
it's gonna be hilarious when everyone looks back 6 months from now and remembers getting $5K in inference for $200 a month...

"you know what i'd really like?" "tell me" "a support agent" "...we can do a support agent" "a real agent, no low-effort AI bots, no outsourced indian firm" "i'll get you a very good agent. single mom working in the midwest, clear communicator, can actually issue refunds"

Honestly, this should be the pitch for half of startups because this reasonably is the only thing that differentiates some of them.
the moat is that i got the dawg in me

I swear, some people have absolutely no theory of mind for one another. The OP here clearly doesn't comprehend the idea that there are some people who do not want to go out and socialize and only did it for the purposes of fulfilling some greater goal. How hard is it to understand that social commitments can suck ass for introverts? How hard is it to understand that staying home in your jammies with a glass of wine can be a fun evening? It doesn't have to be your thing. You can decide you never want to do that. How hard is it to understand that it could be someone else's thing?
You guys realize that one of the greatest joys of motherhood is never again having to do any of the tedious and unfulfilling social rituals you were forced to do so you could increase your odds of finding a man who wanted to have kids with you

Wasn't there a Black Mirror episode akin to this?
I have an AI agent that logs every negative comment someone makes about me online. It then creates a profile of the person, maps all of their social connections, and finds all their emails. Tomorrow morning, my AI agent will sent out an email blast to everyone's extended social network, detailing the horrible things they've said about me.

There is no way this is real: 1. Everyone knows the value of a Rolex. It’s ubiquitous. 2. stores don’t store watches like this until they are ready for sale and will remove the stickers in front of you. 3. You’re saying that the rioters wouldn’t enjoy smashing this?
A Rolex watch was found abandoned beside the trash during protests in France.

I believe Paul talked about this…
Religious people all over replies acting like it's totally normal to completely 180 on your life and destroy much of what you've worked on for years suddenly because "Jesus" and it's not an episode.
