I have a childhood friend I’ve known since I was about 9 or 10. The last time I saw him was in 2016, and since then, he’s called me maybe 6 or 7 times. Every single time, it’s been to ask me for money or a favour. Not once to ask how I’m doing. I was always excited to hear from him, only to end up disappointed.
In 2023, i even contributed money to help him out of trouble. When he called again four months ago to ask for money, I said no. Not because I couldn’t afford it, but because I felt used. Wallahi, I’m not okay with being remembered only when I’m needed.
