Boundary demarcation by claw marking and scent marking by urinating are two major ways wild cats claim their territory 🐅 Higher claw marks = a bigger, stronger, and more robust tiger. So a loud and clear warning to any intruder ! 🌲🐾

If Prasar Bharati can spend ₹15 crore a year on a DD News show featuring a star anchor, while the ISRO Chairman’s basic pay is about ₹27 lakh a year, shouldn’t we rethink our priorities? If India wants to conquer space and attract our finest scientific minds, our rewards must match our ambitions.

The sea in the central Pacific has crossed 30°C for the first time in recorded historyEl Niño is still getting stronger. The World Meteorological Organization expects the sea there to be about 3.7°C above normal between October and December. The highest so far was 2.6°C in 2015-16. This time the effects may last into early 2027 #India must take note Our monsoon this year ended 13% below normal and South Asia is likely to stay warmer than normal in the coming months. El Niño alone does not decide our weather but our farmers and our water supply will feel it What worries me is that the new phenomenon of rapidly changing weather pattern doesn’t augur well for us. We must watch rainfall closely, manage our water better and help farmers move to crops which can survive this. Preparing early will always cost us less than handling a crisis later #ElNino #ClimateResilience #India

Here is an exceptionally rare glimpse of the world’s largest wild goat, the magnificent Kashmir Markhor. This weekend, I read a fascinating report, “Recovery of Kashmir Markhor Capra falconeri – A threatened mountain ungulate in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Territory of India”, documenting the Kashmir Markhor Recovery Project’s work during 2022–2026. This excellent conservation work deserves to be highlighted. With horns that spiral skyward in dramatic curves, the incredible Markhor is the world’s largest wild goat. In India, it is found only in Jammu and Kashmir, in the Kazinag and Pir Panjal landscapes. Since 2005, @wti_org_india and the Department of Wildlife Protection, Jammu and Kashmir, have worked to secure its future. A network of 44 Markhor Watchers. More than 140 frontline personnel trained and equipped. Six homestays and 22 nature guides supported around Kazinag. The Kazinag population estimate rose from 221 in 2023 to 227 in 2026. For population this small, every individual matters. Reading this, I kept thinking of Project Nilgiri Tahr in Tamil Nadu. Thousands of kilometres south, another extraordinary mountain species inhabits the cliffs and grasslands of the Western Ghats. The endangered Nilgiri Tahr occurs naturally nowhere else on Earth, its entire range shared by Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Under Project Nilgiri Tahr in Tamil Nadu, scientific surveys, grassland restoration and community engagement are helping us understand and protect its world. Tamil Nadu’s 2026 synchronised survey estimated 1,364 Tahr, compared with 1,303 in 2025. Two species in different habitats in India but so much to share and learn from each other in the work of keeping them alive. Their future rests on sustained government commitment, the resolve of forest personnel and conservation organisations, and the trust we build with local communities. It takes years of walking difficult terrain, protecting habitat, understanding a herd and standing beside the people who share its mountains. Kudos all those making this happen 🤛 Incredibly Rare Photos by Udayan Rao and the Video by the Project Team. #Markhor #NilgiriTahr #SpeciesRecovery #Kashmir #TamilNadu #WesternGhats #WildlifeConservation

"We waited for 11 hours from 4am till 3pm to receive our Father's body from mortuary after completing 100s of procedures of Kerala Police. Without any procedure, the accused went on bail even before we got to see our father's dead body" - Victim Jayabalakrishnan's children 😭 The recent Mercedes-Benz accident in Kochi has sparked public outrage after the children of victim Jayabalakrishnan questioned the apparent difference between the procedures their family had to endure and the speed with which the 17-year-old accused was released on station bail. The children of Jayabalakrishnan started their protest late evening yesterday even before their father's dead body haven't yet finished burning, before the police station at Cheranalloor. Jayabalakrishnan's death is not merely a story about a damaged luxury car or a controversial bail decision. It is the loss of a working father whose family now has to face life without him. Their demand is ultimately for a fair investigation, accountability under the law and assurance that the circumstances of their father's death will not be overlooked.

After we published the world's first N-of-1 trial in Ayurveda earlier this year, Prof @Kishor_Ayu was invited by the International Network for N-of-1 trials and Single Case Designs to share our experience in their blog section. This is now online. Prof Kishor describes his journey from identifying oft-prescribed Ayurvedic medications for neurological issues by an informal practice audit of a high turnover center to basic research to our collaboration in clinical research. P.S. Like many first attempts, we know that the study has limitations. We want to build on this and also encourage young Ayurvedic researchers and modern medical researchers not indoctrinated by $EBM to build on this. P.S.2. What has been disappointing is that our proposal for a very small grant support to one of the major public agencies to expand on this work was turned down without any comments. I look forward to seeing them fund the same circle of institutes and labs which they usually fund after one of them pitches our idea in a refurbished manner. I personally dedicate this to our beautiful @bhupro which has allowed all of us to expand our minds and do novel work. @manojpandey66 @abandopa @SAnsumali @manigreeva @amitavb1 @AnuragSinghBio @aktilaiyan @payaljs @Sunitasriv @DhotarAnkit @abhas_rewcie nof1sced.org/post/the-first-…

The Election Commission is a Constitutional body @ECISVEEP Does it behove? 👇

Kudos to the forest team, especially the frontline staff, whose skill, patience and dedication made this rescue possible. Enormous effort and care go into rescuing elephant calves and reuniting them with their mothers 💪
What a beautiful video. A mother and calf fell into a water tank. Both were rescued but during rescue the calf got separated from mother. Kurseong division staff brilliantly tracked the mother. It took 7 hours but they reunited them. Reaction of mother in last !! Gods work.

Another fatal luxury car crash that killed a scooterist in Kerala by a 17 year old, son of District Judge ⚠️ Victim's Niece was told, "Don't teach me law, you have no rights to question me" - Minor's father(additional district judge) "Don't overreact and get emotionally driven, he is just a 17 year old kid" - Kerala Police The accident occurred at around 2:20 AM to 3:00 AM at Cheranalloor in Kochi. A speeding luxury Mercedes-Benz car, registered under the name of the additional judge, rammed into a scooter from behind. The scooter rider, 55-year-old Jayabalakrishnan of Manjali, was killed. He was a local street vendor returning home after closing his wayside eatery (thattukada) near a temple in Chittoor. The 17-year-old minor, who does not possess a driving license, reportedly took the car out for a night drive. He was speeding at 100km/hr while the crash occured as per reports. The victim's niece JAYALAKSHMI claims that the accused was not shown to them at the police station and Kerala police insisted them to not get emotionally driven by this incident as if this isn't a big loss at all. The father of the 17 year old accused who is a district court judge spoke rudely at the police station asking them not to teach him law as per Jayalakshmi's claim. The central issue is the loss of a human life. Jayabalakrishnan's family has suffered an irreversible loss, and the circumstances surrounding his death must be investigated thoroughly. The victim and his family deserve justice, while the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings must establish responsibility on the basis of evidence rather than influence, status or public speculation.

Election Commission filed more than 12 lakh appeals against West Bengal voters, and every one of them carries the same date: April 5, 2026. As reported by @chhuti_is in @thewire_in , based on appeal records compiled by the Civic Research Group, the Election Commission appealed against 16,08,175 of the 32,53,401 Bengal voters whom judicial officers had examined and found eligible. That is 49.4%. This number is not in dispute. In its own September submission to Supreme Court, ECI itself reported 16,10,311 appeals against inclusion. What is new is when they were filed. The Wire's verification of unique appeal IDs shows that 99% of the appeals carry one of three dates - 🔹April 5: 12,15,318 appeals (87%) 🔹April 6: 1,39,954 appeals 🔹April 8: 30,102 appeals Now look at the calendar. Judicial officers finished examining more than 60 lakh cases by the first week of April. The rolls for the Assembly election were frozen at midnight on April 7. Polling began on April 23. So within days of judges clearing these voters & on the eve of the freeze, the Commission filed appeals against nearly half of them. Do the arithmetic. 12.15 lakh appeals in a single day works out to about 14 appeals every second, around the clock for 24 hours. Acc. to The Wire a single timestamp shared by more than 12 lakh appeals points to appeals created or uploaded as a batch. These were individual citizens, each one cleared by a judge after their documents were examined. Was even one of their cases individually reviewed before the Commission challenged it? There's more. A retired judge sitting as an appellate tribunal in Murshidabad said on record that a substantial share of the appeals before him were filed by the Additional Chief Electoral Officer's office. The Commission still hasn't disclosed the grounds for these appeals, who authorised them, or how they were prepared. Questions that Election Commission answer: 🔹How were more than 12 lakh appeals generated on a single day, April 5? 🔹Was each voter's case individually examined before an appeal was filed against them? If so, by whom, and when? 🔹Who ordered these appeals, and why were they filed just before the rolls froze? 🔹On what grounds did the Commission challenge voters whom judges had already cleared? 🔹Will it withdraw every appeal that was not based on an individual review of the voter's case? Judges examined each voter one by one. The Commission appears to have challenged them in bulk. m.thewire.in/article/governm…

Stopping construction can't be the solution. Strict regulations & enforcement of the same will largely minimize the issue but for that: 1. Competent people (and not just ideological soulmates) need to be consulted AND 2. Govt should have the political will to enforce compliance
Ive never seen such a hazy mumbai afternoon. Mind you thats not fog, its boiling in mumbai rt now. This is smog. Mumbai skies are full of pollution. And we are inhaling this poison night and day. Authorities have given 24 hour construction permission in this city. This is a ticking time bomb and i wonder what is @BJP4India doing about it? Corruption at its peak!!!! @Dev_Fadnavis @mybmc @mieknathshinde #mumbaipollution #toxicair

Our rights, as fundamental as right to breathe, is being robbed by the politicians who serve ONLY the rich who fundamental their election campaigns. @SAnsumali - What recourse do you think ordinary citizens have? Do you think winning majority votes naturally confers this right?
Mumbai Pollution: This is not a crisis. This is an emergency situation. In the garb of “infrastructure development” - we have let things go out of control.
