My millennial brain can't process this. We went to Dhauli once. And to Banganga Barrage in Nepal when studying in Gorakhpur. The latter was 3 hrs by bus and was my first international trip! – at Anugul, India
My son’s school (National Public School) is taking them on a tour to Malaysia 🇲🇾. They are staying at Marriot and exploring KL and Langkawi. It’s good to see that travel is being normalised at a school level in the current generation. My school ( Vidya Mandir Adayar) took us in summer holidays to Himalayan treks and it opened me up to speaking with people and understanding places and customs. Travelling by second class sleeper, staying at temporary lodges in Delhi, Mandi and tents in Bara Bangal range (Manali Area). I think we stayed overnight in tents and mostly did night travel by trains/buses. It opened up the love for places and travel for me. Nothing was more therapeutic than putting my face on the window seat grill and staring at places pass by on the Tamil Nadu express. I have tried taking my son on quite a few trips. I am curious to see how he adjusts to a trip with a larger group of a similar age group.

The first Odia to become Collector, and among the very first in India, was Rai Bahadur Nanda Kishore Das in then Angul, way back in 1891. He belonged to the PCS and was a relative of Utkalmani. The other three districts had to wait for Nilamani Senapati, ICS in late 20s. – at Anugul, India

His pirated paperbacks saw me through many a long train journey. Apart from the novel, of which he was a master; he was also exceptional at short stories

Correct but misleading. Almost all the 400 odd British civil servants in India decided to leave inspite of not being formally forced to. It was made clear that sensitive postings would not be available and racial feelings would not allow them to work under Indian bosses.
Not only did India not do that, but all British civil servants in India were allowed to retain their jobs on their original expatriate terms, including a promise of promotion prospects. The last British Indian Civil Service member didn't leave Indian service until 1968.

Very few continued on the Executive side, and that too for only a few years - JPL Gwynn, a thoroughly Indianised officer, retired (prematurely) from AP in 1968. They lasted longer in the Judiciary - Falshaw retired as CJ of Punjab in 66, Mootham as Allahabad CJ in 61

William Broome gave up British citizenship, married an Indian and became a judge of the Allahabad HC after Pt Nehru's intervention. He was the last Englishman (in theory atleast) to retire in 1972. He was the first judge to hear the case that led to Mrs Gandhi's disqualification

Good evening from Mumbai. For a moment, this almost feels like Italy. But those terracotta rooftops, the harbour and the Taj remind you… this is Mumbai.

Rampant jungle clearing for palm oil cultivation in Borneo has led to many orangutan deaths. Their orphaned babies become easy prey for well established wildlife smuggling networks that traffic them to Europe or US. Their good fortune that our Forest Dept rescued them! – at Anugul, India

Being Anugola Collector used to be a lot more difficult. In Feb 1935, a bear entered the town. It was chased into the bungalow of the Collector (now the RCCF Residence). The DC shot at it, but the half dressed officer was attacked and mauled anyway! eresources.nlb.gov.sg/newspa… – at Anugul, India
