Sydney Sweeney reveals in an interview that she doesn’t care about the PHP vulnerability because she moved everything to Rust in 2024. “They said the rewrite would take six months. We’re on month 30. We haven’t shipped a feature since, but I’m having a very normal Wednesday.”

Economists estimate that Prop 40 (California billionaire tax) would COST Californians $39B! It raises $30B one time. But billionaires who move away stop paying state income tax, and that adds up to ~$70B in lost revenue.
California's Billionaire Tax Act would collect roughly $30 billion. Accounting for lost income taxes from departures, the mean Net Present Value is negative $39 billion, from Benjamin Jaros and Joshua Rauh nber.org/papers/w35899

On this date in 1982, Gottlieb released "Q*bert" in arcades. BITE-SIZED FACT | The orange, nose-first character had to change the colors of a pyramid's cubes while avoiding Coily the snake and other quirky enemies. That distinctive arcade cabinet became an '80s gaming favorite. #80s

There is a throwaway line in a WSJ story about the Seattle mayor’s failures about how reps from her admin traveled to SF to learn how Lurie was leading such a successful turnaround and were stunned by how it seemed to be connected to hiring competent people who know what they’re doing.
Nordstrom Rack will open next year at 2 Stockton Street, near Union Square! Three years ago, companies were leaving San Francisco. Today, they want to be here, and Nordstrom Rack’s decision to return to the heart of our city is another sign of the growing confidence in San Francisco. The 50,000 square foot Nordstrom Rack is just the latest example of retail coming back downtown.  We're making our streets safer and cleaner, bringing people back downtown, cutting red tape, and creating the conditions for businesses to succeed. I'm thrilled that Nordstrom is choosing to invest in San Francisco again, and look forward to welcoming Nordstrom Rack as we continue building on our city's momentum.

Did you watch Whiz Kids? On this day in 1983 (5 October 1983), CBS premiered Whiz Kids—four teens (Richie, Ham, Jeremy, and Alice) who used a computer called Ralf, to crack cases with reporter Llewellen Farley. This show was FUN! This is the TV series that made me want to be a hacker on my Commodore 64... but that's a story for another day 😁 Who else loved watching the Whiz Kids adventures on TV?

lol. Jokes aside here though, if you’re an early stage founder you should seriously consider the rounding error point when talking to multistage funds about leading your seed round. Do you really thing a $5B fund cares about the dinky $10M check they gave you? It is actually in their best interest *not* to spend meaningful time helping you because you can’t be a fund returner for them. The opportunity cost of hours focused on you vs the company they put $200M in is just too great. Sure, maybe they will lead your A or B later on and have more skin in the game, but for now you’re basically giving them a free option call. …and if they decide not to lead those subsequent rounds? The negative signaling leaves you dead in the water. You’re probably better off having funds specialized in seed lead your first round.
It's quite possible that Vinod didn't even know Khosla Ventures had led Factory's Series C. He probably saw the tweets, recognized one of the names, and fired off a response from his phone. That's how it works at that level I guess. $100M or so is a rounding error. It barely registers.
