Meh. I’m not a super booster of TPUSA or anything, but they’re clearly an organization in flux, and facing a lot of the same problems as the movement writ large. I think Erika Kirk is more focused on Christian evangelization than political organization, and that’s her call. The real problem is that Republicans — or, really, MAGA — have become an echo chamber, at the center of which is a class of entertainers who are always looking for their next buck. To keep the cash flowing, they have to get increasingly more radical (and cruel), while more radical elements of the party(ish) gain ground from the outside. The two groups sort of close in together, and now it’s hard to tell who is a “news personality” and who is just basically a fascist. And then there are elements mixed in that are paid provocateurs. The “fascism” thing isn’t a joke. There are plenty of “mainstream” personalities who talk about it openly. They help to define the path that both inside and outside forces take to each other — and they’re very identifiable! If Monday you’d have given me the ability to name everyone who would now be parroting talking points about Israel and Iran, I could have named every last one of them. If you want to turn this ship around, I’d mostly suggest turning off a lot of podcasts and turning down social media. Just, exit the spiral. Thin the number of grifters in the center of the right-world.
