Journalistic malpractice.
CBC platformed Camosun political science instructor Daniel Reeve to analyze Premier-designate Lorne Doerkson and somehow forgot to mention the tiny detail that Reeve himself ran as an NDP candidate (and worked as a ministerial aide to NDP Health Minister Corky Evans)
Here’s the “neutral expert” take they ran: “I thought one of the things that jumped out to me is that they are going to go that one of the first things that the premier elect suggested is a financial basically walking through of the budget. And I think that from that analysis, they're going to say, oh, my God, it's worse than we thought. And now we're going to have to impose a whole bunch of cuts so that we don't raise taxes and so that we don't cut health care. And that. That's going to be the financial message that's going to hopefully, from his perspective, hold that center right to kind of far right coalition together and also kind of pin the problems of his government on the past.”
Just another dispassionate academic, right? The same lifelong NDP activist who spent years organizing campaigns and working inside an NDP government is now on the public broadcaster framing the new Conservative government as a cynical cut-and-blame operation aimed at “center-right to far-right” voters. Disclosure optional, apparently
CBC’s mountain of omissions continues @CBCOmbud @BrodieFenlon
Sometimes you have to listen to what the people are saying, and if you do listen, listen carefully, you might conclude it’s time for a little introspection.
Today broke grey and raw for New Democrats here in BC: last night was a body blow.
This morning I’m sending solidarity and care to all the progressive organizers - within and beyond electoral politics - who have worked tirelessly over so many years in this province.
It is thanks to your unending effort that we have won and defended all our social gains: queer and disability rights, Indigenous rights, childcare and public health, working conditions and unionization, universal public services and more.
None of these victories came without struggle. And that struggle must continue now, to protect them in every way we can.
But not today. Today is a day to feel all the feelings, find comfort and get some rest.
Tomorrow we rise to fight again.
Line of the night.

Running a winning campaign is hard enough. @katy_merrifield was named BC Conservative campaign manager the day the writ dropped, with a new leader and a party still finding its footing.
Most campaign managers have to fly the plane. Katy had to build it while flying it.
And still won.
An extraordinary achievement.
Nice to see @Emily_Lowan win her seat and inject some youthful energy and ideas into BC politics. But her speech tonight was way too dark, way too pessimistic at a time when British Columbians have voted for change and some hope. Fight hard for your ideas but don’t be shy about extending some grace when grace is called for.
Lorne coming across as decent, folksy, populist with a side of corn. A guy who understands his province and the challenges of BC’s working families, who is speaking to the need to finally welcome instead of chase away investment. Finally, a big dose of optimism our province so badly needs, especially our young people.

Should be evidence for any congressional inquiries into what happened with Starshield. If Musk is throttling a Pentagon-run defense network, which was commissioned to work in a partner nation as a matter of U.S. policy, because of his own political bias or desire to sway the midterms he’s heavily invested in (see his subsequent tweet), then he represents a national security risk. I’d argue he represents that anyway.

There is not even an ounce of TRUTH when Carney says that Canada & Türkiye have shared values when it comes to Human Rights. 0% true. It’s actually an insult to Canada & Canadians to say this. Canadians should be disappointed by this, even if you support Carney. Not acceptable 🇨🇦
On this the PM is absolutely correct.

I think it’s called a Hail Mary in American.
I am pleased to have secured additional tariff exemptions products crucial to Maine’s agricultural industries, including blueberry, potato, apple, and seaweed producers.
Many of our farmers and growers rely on specialized equipment, packaging materials, and other products from Canada that are either unavailable from American suppliers or cannot be replaced without incurring significant expense.
In my repeated conversations with Ambassador Greer, Secretary Lutnick, and other senior Administration officials, I have asked for tariff relief for these important products and I will continue working directly with Administration officials to seek additional relief and encourage a broader trade agreement with Canada, our neighbor, ally, and largest trading partner.
This comes way too late to have any meaningful impact on prices before the midterms and it’s a tacit admission his tariff policies have in fact hurt working Americans.
TRUMP REPORTEDLY PLANS TO EASE 50% TARIFFS ON CANADA
The Trump administration is reportedly preparing to remove 50% tariffs on certain Canadian agricultural and forestry products, potentially as early as Friday.
The move is intended to provide relief to trade-dependent states, including Maine, ahead of the U.S. midterms.
However, tariffs on other Canadian goods could rise to offset the reductions.
Hopefully he’ll have more time to spend with the kids and kittens starting next week.

▪️ “The lands lost by Kyiv are not their territory; these are historical lands of Russia”;
▪️ “Ukrainians, like stray dogs, are being rounded up on the streets and forcibly driven to the front. There are half a million deserters in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, if not more”;
▪️ “Russia is still ready to negotiate on Ukraine, especially since Russians and Ukrainians are one people.”
