Here are 4 sketchnotes of the 4 toolkits from @pgliljedahl's #thinkingclassroom. These versions now have a better citation of the book. I hope they inspire discussion about how to make learning more accessible to more students! drive.google.com/drive/folde… #onted #destreaming

Yesterday, we looked at this graph and were curious about voter turnout in Nunavut. #mth1w This article provides some information. And context for questioning the conditions for elections in the North. cbc.ca/news/canada/north/pla… #onted #slowrevealgraph @jennalaib

Can you figure out the fewest number of marks needed on this ruler? (I think this would be a great math task in the classroom!)

We started with exploring linear/nonlinear patterns in #mth1w. Many students came in knowing the difference, so we used tasks to revisit, review and consolidate what we know. In this task, we sorted patterns first: linear or nonlinear. 1/2

Groups chose 2 patterns: one linear & one nonlinear. They created tables of values, sketched fig 52, and wrote expressions for each. This task was self-extending because they could choose the next pattern the group wanted to work with. #mth1w #btcthinks @fawnpnguyen 2/2

We focused on banning social media for teens <= 16 early in #ENG2D. And how different texts might communicate info/opinions. Students sorted videos (from TikTok) on a graph (got to embed some data literacy) exploring for/against and how persusasive a text was. #btcthinks

I'm trying some thin-slicing (using small variations between tasks) in English this semester. It's making sense with grammar, punctuation and stylistic choices. #btcthinks #eng2d Here's an example. 1/n

Next day, we looked at political cartoons commenting on social media and phone use, and students wrote captions using compound or complex sentences. (One group even created a compound-complex sentence.) Their favourite captions were riveting! @hicknell #eng2d #btcthinks 5/5
