FYI allthingscounterterrorism[dot]com IS NOT ME & HASN'T BEEN FOR LAST 5-6yrs. Someone got domain & seems to have replicated my old blog on it, I'd guess to track who visits. If you've been to site for research & especially if you saved stuff, you may want to get device checked.

If the world is getting a little too much may I recommend the inexplicably obsolete word ‘latibulating’, from the 17th century? To latibulate is to find a cosy corner somewhere and hide in it.

I've refrained from posting anything of my own about 9/11 today until now. On this 25th anniversary, I've been at a loss for words, knowing everything that day brought.
In violence. In chaos. In grief. In wars that followed and defined a generation.
I keep turning back to the inspiring acts of that day and the love of that was in them. There is some comfort and an example for us there.
Sometimes, that's all we get.
Quite a number of them, myself included, went on to operational roles in counter terrorism related areas. Some paid a high price for their service. I know some of you still lurk on twitter. I know some of you have had some challenges. I'm thinking of you and I'm so proud of you.
I often think of them. The attacks changed the lives of many of my kids in that class & mine too. I'm still so proud of them. Almost without fail they threw themselves into study & learning more to the extent the spike in quality of academic work triggered 2 reviews of grading.
25 years ago I was up late writing a lecture on the changing nature of terrorism when al Qaeda hit the US. I was only a few years older than my undergrads & I'll never forget standing in front of several hundred confused shocked faces & trying to make some sense of it for them.

Happy 100th Birthday Sir David Attenborough. Thanks for being you and doing what you do. You are a legend and the world wouldn’t be the same without you in it.

4 Months ago Stormzy couldn't walk with a brain injury. He'd been told he had to be put to sleep.
Today I got to go and visit him in his new home.
The world needs more Stormzy right now!!! Can't stop smiling after today

Holy smokes! Philosophy enrolments at Sydney Uni are popping off.
Our core 1st year subject, PHIL1011: Reality, Ethics and Beauty, has 705 enrolments. First-year Logic has 424.
Who knows why, but I’d like to think that in an age of distraction and AI, philosophy is back.
My old blog hasn't been publicly accessible for as many - if not more - years. The only publicly accessible parts of my blog are those bits saved in TROVE - the Australian National Library's research archive.
