Airbnb's entire rating scale is now 4.5 to 5.0 You can't make this up 😂
Airbnb deletes negative reviews so everything is always 4.7 Google Maps removes negative reviews in many countries as defamation so everything is always a 4.7 Booking sites want you to book so will also happily remove negative reviews for their hotels so everything is always a 4.7 I made a site called Hotelist.com (or HotelList.com whatever you prefer, I have both!) It gets ratings from all booking platforms, normalizes them to show the actual score (eg a booking site where most hotels are always between 4 and 4.7 means you can normalize that to a 0 and 5) It also uses AI vision models to rate hotels based on how they look And it browses the internet for actual experiences (think blogs and Reddit posts) to get the real opinion about them outside reviews And it's starting to work, I just stayed in this beautiful boutique apartment hotel called Woo Suites in Athens for $400/night. Clean, nice minimalist interior, working cold AC, central, excellent staff, great healthy breakfast, and we found it through Hotelist! It's free, I don't make any money on it (actually I lose thousands per month on it to collect data via APIs and web scrapers) and there's no affiliate money bs like other booking sites (they will increase ranking of hotels if they pay sites a higher commission!) Hotelist.com Tell your friends please!!!!!! 🙏

I think the plan is to get researchers to start using their AI with a limited compute budget, then once they have all the academic data, they’ll basically steal all their ideas from underneath them and run the research internally with their unlimited compute budget!
We’re giving scientists, mathematicians, and engineers free access to our frontier models—starting with 10,000 researchers and expanding to 100,000 through 2027. ChatGPT for Academic Researchers is built to accelerate discovery across disciplines.

Germans are never like this about stuff that actually matters

He was never up to the task. A corporate lawyer known for his boorishness and intellectual weakness. To govern Europe through the current crisis requires steel nerves and an iron will, and a vision as clear as spring water. All he had was fuzzy nonsense and muddled lies
Where is Germany's Chancellor Merz? German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has remained largely out of public view during his four-week summer break. His last public appearance was on July 29, when he attended political events in Berlin before saying, “Happy holidays. Bye.” His exact holiday location has not been disclosed. His absence comes as Germany faces extreme heat, wildfires, drought and political disputes. The opposition has criticized his silence, while government officials say Merz is “closely monitoring” events and remains available if needed. Meanwhile, his coalition faces difficult pension and healthcare reforms. Merz is expected to return for a cabinet retreat next week, ahead of what could be a challenging political autumn.

Dario Amodei’s wife badgered Jeffery Epstein to invest in her porn company three years after he plead guilty to soliciting a child for prostitution. You really hate to see this happen to the CEO of Silicon Valley’s foremost authority on morality
👀so many details in this deeply reported profile of Cami Clark, Dario Amodei's wife aka the First Lady of Anthropic and a key adviser to him. if you Google her you'll find almost nothing, and that's by design

If you think home prices crashing is bad, you have fiat brain. Homes are consumer goods and the cheaper they are the better. You only think of them as an investment asset because your money is broken & you have never known savings.

.@elonmusk says that no one can name a person who died from his aid cuts. In fact, I've met the kids who are dying, and I've talked to the families who lost children. In my columns, I've cited many, many names of people who have died because of Musk's aid cuts. A few examples: *Yamah Freeman was a 23-year-old woman who died in childbirth because Musk cut funding for the diesel for ambulances in her part of Liberia. She couldn't get to a hospital and died as people were carrying her there. I talked to her parents and sister in their village. *Gbessey Kiadu, age 1, died of malaria because of his cuts to malaria medication in Liberia. I talked to his mom in her village. *Ibrahim Koroma, an infant, died of AIDS in Sierra Leone after he interrupted HIV supplies. I talked to health workers who cared for him. *Achol Deng was an 8-year-old girl with HIV in South Sudan who died when Musk cut funding for the health care worker who provided her medicines. I talked to the healthcare workers. I could go on and on. In almost every village you go to in South Sudan, Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leone or other countries I reported in, you find people dying because of aid cuts. I challenge Musk: Come with me on a reporting trip, and we'll talk to these moms and dads, and you'll see the dying children themselves. I think if you see the kids whose lives are at stake, maybe you'll change your mind.
Exactly. And they cannot cite a single name of someone who died out of the “millions” they falsely claim have died. Not a single name!

One of the most horrific scenes in human history has been revealed. An elderly woman from Gaza holding her grandson's hand and waving a white flag – she was executed by an Israeli sniper in Gaza, killed in cold blood in front of her grandson. A video the world must never forget.

theory that the reason these miterrand era france reels are so popular is that china is setting standards now and more people are wondering why they ever privileged free markets and financialization so much over having a competitive high modernist engineering state
