Matthew Perry had what most people spend their whole lives chasing. The hit show, the money, the house with the pool.
He says he loved it for about six months. Then one day he walked into that house and realized none of it had touched the problem he actually had.
The part that stays with me is the Craig Bierko story. Bierko turned down the role, watched Friends become a massive hit, and didn’t speak to Perry for two years. When he finally came over to apologize, Perry told him the truth at 24: it doesn’t do what we all thought it would do.
Bierko didn’t believe him. Almost nobody does when the warning comes from someone who already has the thing.
Success is great at fixing outside problems. It does very little for the inside ones, and it can make them harder to deal with, because now nobody thinks you’re allowed to struggle.
This is from November 2022, less than a year before he died. It lands much heavier now.

I wish people would stop gesturing towards the judgement of future historians. It’s far more dire than that. What civilization do you suppose created the discipline of history? There will be no history in the future.

The entire point of dating apps is to ensure that monogamy never exists again and to subliminally seduce men and women into the idea of cuckoldry. You match with a girl who just got fucked yesterday, and you’re excited?
You match with a girl who’s married, sleeps next to her husband, smells his farts, swallows his cum, and you fuck her one time when she’s mad or in a marital 304 phase. You’re excited?
You match with a girl who is chatting with and sending nudes to 20 other dudes. How do people not understand why “modern dating” is so “fucked up” and how the end result of this will NOT be Chad with a harem of bitches but instead a generation of women who’s new standard of relationship will become one sided non monogamy/cuckoldry? Nobody sees how this is happening right before our eyes?

I think the problem is when you’re dating on apps you’re only selecting for one thing:
Am I attracted to this person?
Easy right?
Sure on the surface. Until you decide you would like to be done with dating, and “settle down”.
Now you want someone attractive,
with all the extras.

this post has so much wisdom in it i thought naval wrote it
and i don't think the author even realizes why
if you understand this properly, you can explain almost all political issues we see in the world today
you can't take care of your loved ones if you can't even take care of yourself. you can't build a functioning country if your loved ones aren't taken care of. and you certainly can't save the world if your own country is falling apart. responsibility has to expand outwards.
the problem with so much left-wing thinking is that it's backwards. it starts with the most noble sounding objective imaginable, "saving the world" or "climate change" or "poor migrants", and thinks about the most nice-sounding solution, without considering if the conditions required to achieve it even exist, and that's why so many apparently well-intentioned policies end up doing the exact opposite of what they were supposed to achieve.
they sound compassionate, but completely ignore incentives, tradeoffs, or second-order consequences
clean your own damn bedroom and put your house in order before trying to change the world
you will never be able to fix the world if you can't even get the order of your own responsibilities right

To understand most things Musk says, you have to understand that engineers are born, not made. You have to understand that he has always been an engineer and pretty much nothing else. And you have to understand that 99% of an engineer's job isn't to create a thing... it's to teach ourselves how to create a thing.
So when he says cooling in space is "easy", that doesn't mean what normies mean by "easy", which is "doesn't take a lot of resources, time, or expense".
He means what engineers mean by "easy", which is "contains no unsolved problems".
You take in X amount of energy, you know it's all gonna end up as heat, you know that to radiate X amount of heat you need Y amount of radiator. It's all just math.
If you build a satellite that takes in 2X energy, you need 2Y radiator.
There's no unsolved problem, here. There's nothing to figure out. You know the answer. You just have to design the layout.
If you're been beating your head against "how land booster" and "how make engine not boom" and "how make rocket lighter" for years, this is like drawing stick figures by comparison.
So if guy comes along and says "vacuum is a near-perfect insulator", which is both technically true and completely irrelevant, of course Musk is gonna call guy a retard.
Because guy has just revealed that he doesn't understand the basic nature of the problem, or of the design conversation.
The only significance that "vacuum is a near-perfect insulator" has is that it means you can't do cooling in space the same way you would on Earth.
Well, duh.
We've known that since we first understood what space is.
And we've successfully dealt with that challenge since the very first times we put things in space.
Fusion containment is hard. Rocket engines are hard. New AI capabilities are hard. Cheap and reliable manufacturing at scale is hard. Estimating costs and schedules is hard.
Waste heat is not hard.
Replying to @shaunmmaguire @broudsov
Yeah, much easier to cool in space.
~1300 W/m^2 is easily achievable for an aluminum radiator pointed away from the Sun, as it is mostly just seeing cosmic background radiation at ~3 degrees above absolute zero!
Solar panels generate ~250 W/m^2, so you should expect them to have ~5 times the area of the radiator. Most of the mass of the satellite is solar panels.
I really don't know which lunatic decided that a White kid born in 2005 owes the world an apology for something that happened 300 years ago
Slavery wasn't some White invention. Every civilization did it. Africans sold other Africans. The Arab slave trade ran for over a thousand years and enslaved millions. Nobody talks about that
And guess who actually ended it? The West. Britain banned the trade and literally sent its navy out to hunt down slave ships. That part somehow never makes it into the lecture
Meanwhile, slavery still exists today in parts of Africa and the Middle East. Mauritania only made it a crime in 2007. You will never see the outrage or the protests... Nothing but silence
But in the West, people are told to feel guilty for being born. Criminals get excused because "the system made him do it." Repeat offenders get arrested again and again and walk right back out. The victim gets forgotten and the criminal gets treated like the victim
Seriously, how did it get this bad? The same civilization that built the modern world and ended slavery is now tearing itself apart and calling it morality
You have no reason to feel guilty for things that happened centuries ago. You don't even remember what you ate last week
This isn't compassion, it's insanity
This is literally civilizational suicide

Reddit is absolute cancer that’s done legit, measurable harm to the world. The sooner it’s gone, the better.
The site is full of truly evil people who should be in prison… it’s THAT bad.

France: Let's tax internet. Pay per GB.
Germany: Let's tax income generated by AI.
Italy: Exit Tax! 26% on unrealized gains!
Ursula: Let's add Canada to Europe.
Poland: Hold my beer! Let's do a Coup D'Etat.
It appears the total downfall of Europe can be orchestrated in one week!!!

Hate to say this but it's true, Giorgia Meloni (Italy) and Takaichi (🇯🇵Japan) were elected by people who believed their campaign promises of nationalism and Ausländer raus.
Both women caved the instant they were comfortably seated in power. Worse than a trojan horse, far far worse when it's done by one of your own.

Of all the dumb ideas that you see on X, probably the dumbest one is that Elon is not smart
That’s like saying Michael Jordan is not athletic
And then you get this ridiculous argument that Elon simply hires smart people, as if that’s never occurred to anybody else
The whole thing is a massive cope and a way to avoid considering that Elon might be right about other things

What’s a polite way to tell someone, “I’m not discussing this with you because your entire understanding of the subject is built on so many interconnected misconceptions that correcting them would require uninstalling your current worldview and starting the tutorial from birth”?
The entire economy is fake. Nobody works at all. Look at stock prices. Why do you think Amazon, Google, and Nike are all starting to decline?
I'll tell you why: because they've hired a bunch of women who are there because of DEI policies and 3rd world immigrants who are cheaper to employ.
All it takes is one of them to be promoted into hiring positions, and the entire company will be filled with people like them.
These people obviously do nothing of value which reflects on the product and end up just bleeding out the clock given they get paid on time, and as a result the investors are taking their money out from the charts.
Why do you think you haven't played a good video game or watched a good movie or TV show in quite some time? Why do you think men are leaving universities? Because they're indoctrination camps that teach you nothing and still don't even guarantee you a job, given a woman or a 3rd worlder will be hired over you.
The people who DO produce value are sitting at home, being rejected by some incompetent HR retarded girl boss who shouldn't even be there. We've created a society where we're rewarding the most incompetent individuals while expecting the best people to become cashiers or toilet cleaners.
That's not going to fly given how the entire economy is falling apart as well as the nuclear family, and stock prices are simply a reflection of the value being created.
This is such a bleak story about what it's like to try to land a job right now. nytimes.com/interactive/2026…
Another crypto home invasion case in France.
Criminals broke into a home and violently assaulted the whole family, thinking the father had 660 BTC.
He had made a typo when filing his taxes, that leaked.
He actually owned 0.066 BTC.

I can’t right now; I’m mentally processing that in addition to JFK and 9/11 the Jews may have also done Fukushima.
In february 2010, japan offered to enrich uranium for iran.
Two months later, an israeli defense-linked firm suddenly secured a japanese nuclear surveilance safety contract.
Less than a year later, fukushima exploded.
