I am seeing more and more flopping in the NFL (you know who you are) and it strikes me as yet another example of the two footballs converging and influencing each other.

Good story
Is college football in England sustainable? The Union Jack Classic provided some answers to the sport’s feasibility cross the pond, but some still remain. @adamkuninsports talked to Brits, executives and more about college football’s chances in the U.K.: cronkitenews.azpbs.org/2026/…

Tomorrow our ASU @TheSunDevils play the first ever college football game in UK against the @KUAthletics, at London's iconic Wembley Stadium. I wrote about the meaning of playing at Wembley, a sporting cathedral for which we have no equivalent in the US. greatgamelab.asu.edu/explore…
No, it's not a fevered dream I had: our own @TheSunDevils are going to play Kansas at London's "cathedral of [the other] football," Wembley. I wrested with what it all means: greatgamelab.asu.edu/explore…
Enjoyed speaking to @Marketplace about Jeff Bezos' purchase of a stake in Liverpool, and how it fits in to the broader transatlantic flow of US investment into English football. @NPR @Cronkite_ASU marketplace.org/story/2026/0…
I've spent a lifetime trying to educate Americans and Europeans I encounter that Mexico is in fact in North America, not Central or South America (as English journalists especially insist). This crazy idea of moving Mexico to Conmebol will undermine all my work. C'mon people!
Lo absurdo de este comunicado de la FMF es que institucionalidad y la buena gobernanza es precisamente lo que Infantino ha sacrificado repetidamente para avanzar su propia agenda.

From @TheAthleticFC: UEFA, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation remain steadfast in their position that Gianni Infantino should resign as FIFA president. nyti.ms/4z4VtRP
It is really sad and embarrassing that Mexico is on the other side of this...
Gianni Infantino surely cannot survive as FIFA president now. UEFA, AFC and CONCACAF have begun preliminary discussions about the possibility of organizing competitions among themselves to ensure that players can continue to compete - such as in the Women’s Under-20s World Cup which starts in less than a month - and are not impacted by the ongoing crisis surrounding Gianni Infantino.
The message from the three confederations to Infantino is very clear. He is being given the opportunity to resign and leave his position with dignity. He has the opportunity to go now and should not seek re-election in March. Because the pressure, the heat and the headlines are not going away. Change has to come. Infantino has to go.
Brace yourselves... it's August again! As I wrote a while back @ThePublicSquare, this month of "oh nothing can happen, everyone's on vacation" can be rather dicey. zocalopublicsquare.org/stop-…
Tensions between FIFA and its European confederation, long simmering under the surface over an expanding range of issues, is about to explode into the open.

Since writing this, we learned that 66 million people watched the WC final on U.S. television. That's a larger audience than any baseball or basketball match has ever assembled, and for a game that featured no Americans. 🤯
Coming off the 2026 World Cup, soccer's popularity in the U.S. is booming. "It’s time to get a grip and change the way we understand and talk about America’s relationship with global football," argues @ASU Great Game Lab co-director @andresDCmtz. zps.la/4fo0CeJ

The World Cup Final averaged 66.4 million viewers in the U.S. on FOX and Telemundo combined.
42.5 million on FOX. 23.9 million on Telemundo.
Other than Super Bowls, this is the largest sports audience since the 1994 Winter Olympics.
Spain made history today by becoming the first country to be men's and women's champion in global football at the same time. Truly the world's best footballing nation, all around... #FIFAWorldCup
So sad it's all over... But the good news is we have another FIFA World Cup in 341 days! Counting down the days until Brasil 2027. #FIFAWorldCup
