The US Department of War is directing $150 million of its new Elmet Group investment into a tungsten restart in Nevada, part of a broader US push to reduce reliance on China.
China mined 67,000 of the world's 81,000 tons of tungsten in 2024, about 83%, according to the US Geological Survey.
Tungsten has not been mined commercially in the United States since 2015.
Elmet will form a majority-owned joint venture with Blue Moon Metals (TSX-V: MOON) and Australia's EQ Resources (ASX: EQR) to restart and expand ammonium paratungstate conversion at the Springer Tungsten Complex.
The mine and mill are expected to restart production by the end of 2027.

Silver miners are sitting on a record cash pile:
Net cash balance across the top 10 silver mining companies surged to a record ~$4.2 billion in Q2 2026.
This figure has more than doubled since Q3 2025.
This marks a sharp reversal from the 2014-2024 period, when debt exceeded cash levels for most quarters.
To put this into perspective, during the 2010-2011 rally, combined net cash balance among these companies never exceeded $2.0 billion.
Cash accumulation has accelerated sharply alongside the silver rally, as higher silver prices have boosted margins and free cash flow across the group.
Silver miners have never been this liquid.

BREAKING: Global physical gold-backed ETFs posted +$3.0 billion in inflows in July, the largest monthly intake since April.
This pushed global gold ETF holdings up +23 tonnes, to 4,068 tonnes, just below the all-time high of 4,176 tonnes posted on February 27th.
European funds led, at +$2.1 billion, followed by Asia, at +$600 million, and North America, at +$71 million.
This follows -$2 billion and -$9 billion in monthly outflows in May and June, respectively.
Year-to-date, global gold ETFs have attracted +$11.0 billion in inflows.
Global gold demand is rapidly recovering.

BREAKING: Tether purchased +14 tonnes of gold in Q2 2026, bringing total holdings to a record 146 tonnes, now worth ~$18.8 billion.
This follows gold purchases of +53 tonnes between Q3 2025 and Q1 2026.
Tether’s gold holdings have more than doubled since Q1 2025, while their value has nearly tripled over the same period.
This makes the company the largest known private holder of gold outside of central banks and governments.
In the first half of 2026, only 4 central banks bought more gold than Tether: Poland, Uzbekistan, China, and Kazakhstan.
Tether is now competing with central banks for gold after the correction.

Gold is entering a historically favorable period of the year:
Gold prices have gained +1.5% in July on average over the last 20 years, making it the 2nd-strongest month of the year.
Gold prices have also recorded positive returns in 65% of July months, the 2nd-best win rate of any month.
The strongest July over this period was in 2020, when gold returned +10.7%.
The only better month historically has been August, with an average gain of +1.6% since 2005.
August also posted a 55% win rate, with its strongest year coming in 2011, when gold returned +12.1%.
By comparison, June has historically been the weakest month, with an average decline of -0.4% and just 40% positive readings since 2005.
Seasonality is turning in favor of gold bulls.

There are two things the US cannot afford:
• Rate hikes
• A prolonged, costly war
Yet those are precisely what’s driving the selloff in hard assets.
Not too many times in history do you get the chance to buy gold at oversold levels during a secular bull market.
Act accordingly.

Ned Naylor-Leyland, Precious Metals Fund Manager of the Year and manager of the nearly $3B Jupiter Gold & Silver Fund, sees gold and silver very differently from Bitcoin. Bitcoin, in his view, is now part of the leveraged tech trade, while gold and silver remain long-term purchasing power protection with almost no speculative FOMO yet. He is especially focused on silver development assets in strong jurisdictions, arguing the structural silver problem is bigger than copper and producers have never been cheaper on valuation.

In this latest Ask The Expert episode with Craig Hemke, legendary investor and our founder, Eric Sprott, explains what he believes caused the recent silver price crash, why the long-term fundamentals remain intact, and why he continues to be bullish on precious metals. @TFMetals
🔑 Key takeaways:
🔹 Eric believes commercial banks were caught on the wrong side of the silver rally
🔹 Margin increases and heavy selling accelerated the recent correction
🔹 Silver remains in a supply deficit, supported by strong industrial demand
🔹 Eric expects gold and silver to recover as debt, currency debasement, and global demand continue to strengthen the long-term outlook
