How to defuse someone who needs to vent: - Don't let the rant run. Negative emotions put toxins in your system - People vent because they don't feel heard and their actions have been ignored - Take educated guesses out loud as labels: "sounds like" "seems like" "looks like" - Frustration is about a goal denied in the future. Anger is about the past - Naming which one tells you where their focus sits in time - No advice no corrections. If the label misses say "that's just the way it seems" @fbinegotiator on @hubermanlab

Before we freed anyone, we were slaves. ⛓️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧 After 1066 most of us were serfs. Owned with the land. 🏚️ 1348: the Black Death killed half of us. ☠️ Suddenly our labour was worth something. ⚒️ 1380: the king taxed every head. 👑 1381: the serfs marched on London. 🔥 Mile End. The Tower. The Archbishop's head. ⚔️ Smithfield. The promises torn up. 📜 But serfdom never came back. 🌱 By 1500 it was gone. 🕊️ Four hundred years later we sent a fleet to end slavery for everyone else. ⚓ Help us tell the world the TRUE story of Britain.👇 Proudofus.co.uk/support Be part of us. ☝️🇬🇧 Be Proud Of Us. 🙏🇬🇧

Britain's biggest ever petition wasn't about Britain. 📜 1814. We'd just beaten Napoleon. The peace treaty gave France five more years of the slave trade. ⚓ Our own government had signed it. The country erupted. 🔥 One in every seventeen people signed. Children included. ✍️ Castlereagh took those names to Vienna. He could have asked for anything. He asked for an end to the slave trade. ⚖️ France never got its five years because of the British people. 🇫🇷 🫷🇬🇧 Be part of us. ☝️🇬🇧 Be Proud Of Us. 🙏🇬🇧

Alfred the Great died on this day, 899. 🕯️ In 878 the Vikings took his hall at Christmas. 🔥 He hid in the Somerset marshes with twenty men. 🌾 In spring he sent word: meet me at the stone. ⚔️ Edington. He won. Then he built the towns, the navy, the laws and the schools. 🏰 His grandson united England. 👑 The only English king we ever called Great. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Help us keep the story of England alive. 📖 Be part of us. ☝️🇬🇧 Be Proud Of Us. 🙏🇬🇧

You paid to end slavery. 🇬🇧 Britain borrowed twenty million pounds to free 800,000 people in 1833. 💷 The last of it was paid off in 2015. Your taxes. Your parents’. Your grandparents’. 👨‍👩‍👧 Then sixty years of warships hunting slave ships. 150,000 people freed. ⚓ Proudofus.uk Be part of us. ☝️🇬🇧 Be Proud Of Us. 🙏🇬🇧

The Royal Navy lost over 1,300 men in one night. 👑 ⚓🇬🇧 To a question. ❓ Where exactly are we? 🌊 Parliament offered £20,000 to anyone who could answer it. Millions in today's money. 💰 Even Isaac Newton doubted it could be done. 🧠 Then, in a Lincolnshire village, a young carpenter started building clocks. 🔨 No title. No university. No fortune. What happened next took forty years. ⏳ They teach you Isaac Newton. They rarely teach you John Harrison. 🇬🇧 Be part of us. ☝️🇬🇧 Be Proud Of Us. 🙏🇬🇧

SHE DIED WAITING Heather Earley, mother of three, has died waiting for her money. @PostOffice kept her waiting so long she ran out of time. Impressive logistics. Lawyer @SimonMGoldberg (well worth to give him a follow) shared the sad news today. Heather Earley was one of 555 postmasters who took the Post Office to the High Court and won, and she died before getting her redress, the money owed to put her life back together. He points to a @BBCNews article from 2024 on victims who died before getting redress. Winning in court and never seeing the money is a rare talent. Heather Earley was a mother of three who ran a local shop with a Post Office counter in Mossley, Newtownabbey, in Northern Ireland. In December 2013 the Horizon computer system said she was £10,000 short. A computer said so, and in the Post Office computers are never wrong.. She says one customer kept using a flaw in the system. Every time that customer withdrew £100, the system added £100 to the balance instead of taking it off. I wish my bank worked like that. Heather Earley called the police, and the customer was prosecuted and convicted. That put the blame on the customer, and the Post Office still demanded the £10,000 from her, took money from her wages and refused to give it back even after the conviction. Crime solved, victim billed ... She borrowed from family and maxed out three credit cards just to buy stock for the shop. She cashed in £50,000 of her pension to save the house and clear her debts. Her village lost its post office and its shop, a truly generous service to the community. In 2019 the Post Office settled the group case for £57.75M. Around £46M went on legal and funding costs, which left roughly £20,000 for each of the 555 people. The judge, Mr Justice Peter Fraser, had said the Post Office at times acted as though it answered only to itself, and it seems to have taken that as a challenge. Reports say at least 350 Horizon victims have died before their final payouts, so at this pace the scheme will finish the moment nobody is left to be paid. Heather Earley wanted justice and enough money to rebuild what was left of her life. Simon Goldberg says the lawyers and other parties who held up and nickel and dimed her redress should feel nothing but shame, though shame does not appear to be billable. Stop fighting these people and pay them before it is too late. Heather Earley never got her cheque. RIP Heather

It’s our 9th birthday on Monday 26th October. We haven’t made any big plans to celebrate this year, but if you’re near a sandy beach this half-term do write our name in the sand. Sending a letter or postcard to a loved one would be a lovely way to help us celebrate too. 🥳🏖️✉️🎉

Britain once threatened war with its oldest friend. 🇬🇧 A friendship sealed at Windsor in 1386. Still in force today. 🤝 In 1839 Britain told Portugal: stop shipping human beings. Or the Royal Navy will stop you. ⚓ Off East Africa, HMS Modeste chased a slave ship for nearly nine hours. 695 people stepped onto a jetty at Cape Town. Never sold. 🕊️ They teach you the ships that carried people. Not the ones that stopped them. Watch the full story. 🎥

Before and After in this messy alleyway here in Walsall. It took some hours to clear this, carrying the large pieces a long way back down the alleyway. Litter picking all the bits too and trekking them out. On the wall is a painted "no flytipping" sign
