More than happy to use the term plantation... compare the metrics of a 'bog standard plantation" undergoing UK Forestry Standard restructuring ie. phased harvesting, restocking etc and they would fair very favourably with Nature Friendly Farming.. even better if they r thinned – at Kilmun, Scotland

But not unfortunately in forestry, as the grants budget next year is only £53 million (yes, you read that right) - forestry of course being the only actual proven way to capture carbon at scale we have.
First Minister @JohnSwinney visited The Carbon Removers, a pioneering carbon capture demonstrator site.
We have proposed £4.9 billion in this year's Scottish Budget to work towards our priority of tackling the climate emergency and our transition to net zero.

Climate models predict that droughts will become more frequent and severe, which can affect tree growth, increase tree mortality, and heighten risks of wildfires and pest and disease outbreaks.
This new video on drought risk and impacts highlights:
🌱 the effects of drought on forests and woodlands
🌱 how trees cope under drought conditions
🌱 adaptive management strategies to reduce future drought impacts

Some of us are old enough to remember when we used to call them “Atlantic Oak Woodlands”.
Challenge remains the same - integrated landuse policies which help ensure more resilient landscapes & communities.
Unfortunately Welsh Govt is not ready for that challenge.
Wales’ rare temperate rainforests, remnants of an ancient woodland landscape which now cover less than 1% of the planet, are under threat. Our new report urges Welsh Gov to take urgent action to protect these ecological treasures before it's too late.
