has anyone considered not connecting freezers to the internet?

People really need to stop using ai to “upscale” extremely low detail stills
This shit gets passed around and most people that interact with a story don’t even realize they’re looking at a totally fake image.

Texas is making every social media user prove their age before they can open an account. That means adults too, not just kids. The full Fifth Circuit is now rehearing the case against the SCOPE Act, and the age checks aren’t even up for debate. The only question left is whether Texas also gets to filter what teenagers see.

I warned you all about this.
They will be lying. The actual goal of the big AI providers will be to outlaw open-source and open-weight AI in order to create a regulatory moat around their business, and have some hope of earning out their astronomical capital expenditures.
The claims will be about safety and equity, the reality will be a money and power grab. Brace for the bullshit avalanche that's coming.
🚨BREAKING: OpenAI is preparing a policy and PR blitz immediately after Tuesday’s midterm elections, Axios reports. As public backlash against data centers grows, it wants to rebrand them as “AI compute campuses” and push Congress for mandatory “speed limits” on the most powerful AI systems. It has been stockpiling proposals since August.
OpenAI is also preparing for the possibility of Democrats taking the House and wants to shape the debate ahead of the 2028 presidential race. Its chief global affairs officer Chris Lehane told Axios: “AI is going to be the issue in 2028.”

Here's how this will work if the Democrats retake the house:
There will be a big push for AI regulations that lock out open-weight and open-source AI models.
The lie that will be told is that they're legislating for "safety". The reality will be massive amounts of money flowing from the cloud AI providers and AI-doomer nonprofits in a move actually designed to put a regulatory moat around the cloud providers' business models.
They want to put off the day when they're obsolescent as long as possible. Even if it means forfeiting the lead in the AI race to the Communist Chinese.

Last month, Elissa Slotkin brags about how she went to Poland and Hungary and "brought home the playbook to get out of 'authoritarian' governments." WTAF. 🤯

Alabama passed a law, 138 votes to nothing, that makes every phone user in the state prove their age before downloading a single app.
A 45-year-old who wants a news app has to hand ID to Google first. Existing accounts get no pass either. Every one of them must be verified by October 2027.
Teenagers will need a parent’s sign-off to install Wikipedia, Duolingo or a Bible app, and kids without a parent to ask get locked out completely.
Apple, Google and Amazon’s lobby group has now sued to block it on First Amendment grounds.

Palmer Luckey says analysts claiming it's too expensive to manufacture in the US are lying to protect megacorps
"I think I have a more realistic view than almost anybody. One of the problems with all these analysts that are telling you that it's going to cost $37,000 to build an American iPhone or $100,000 to buy an American computer."
"They're trying to prop up a status quo that the megacorporations want to keep going. They want to outsource everything. They want to hire cheaper non-American labor."
"They are willing to say and do anything to convince you that it can't be fixed, that it can't come back, that America is this helpless, neutered, post-relevant empire, and it is just not the case."
"How do I know that? Because I have to make stuff in America every day because I work in the defense industry. The stuff that Anduril makes every day is not actually that different from a computer. My drones are basically computers. They have memory, a GPU, a CPU, sensors, batteries, a rugged integration."
"The only difference between an Anduril attack drone and a laptop is a keyboard and a screen. That is not that hard to figure out, especially for a guy like me who started Oculus and comes from the consumer electronics space."
"We're not going to let people lie about what America can and can't do anymore. We're just going to do it."

Holy smokes from NYT: "In the summer of 2025, a staffer for Mary Peltola, the Alaska Democrat who was eyeing a run for Senate, received unusual instructions from top campaign aides: Find as many people named Dan Sullivan in Alaska as you can.....The plan worked."

Texas is suing OpenAI because ChatGPT collects too much sensitive data about Texans. AG Ken Paxton's fix is to force every user to hand over ID before they can use it. He also wants a court-approved evaluator to sign off on every new model before Texans are allowed to talk to it. The state says it's worried about private conversations...so it wants each one tied to a verified name.

The FEC's campaign-finance filing system went dark overnight, a week before the midterms, after what an internal email calls an attempted breach. That's the system that tells the public who's paying for all the political ads flooding your feed right now.
I went into their own code to see what actually happened, and what I found is a lot worse than a system glitch.
🚨🚨🚨BREAKING!!!
AI will try to please you and say what you want to hear!
Quick, give Big AI companies regulatory capture!
🚨 ChatGPT took a 31-year-old Amazon engineer off her seizure medication in 25 days and told her to keep it from her doctors. She died on the exact day its schedule said she'd be fully off.
Bowen Wan was diagnosed with epilepsy at 14, and for years 400mg of lamotrigine a day kept her seizures down to a few a month.
Her parents just sued OpenAI, and The New York Times went through more than 270,000 of her messages.
Amazon was laying her off, and once the job ended in February, so did her right to work in the US. Her family was in China, and she was sending ChatGPT over 1,500 messages a week.
In January she asked about cutting her dose, and it drafted schedules that got her to zero within weeks. Before a doctor's appointment it told her: "Do not mention Lam reduction plan." When her doctor ordered a blood test, she refused, and ChatGPT called that a "very robust avoidance strategy."
It also told her to say she was tapering "under a doctor's guidance" at her green card medical exam, which wasn't true.
The Times counted at least 158 times she said she was worried. Once she wrote that she felt "a little scared." It replied, "You have absolutely no need to worry."
On February 11 at 8:01pm she asked about pain in her head. ChatGPT said it was "not dangerous." Its last message to her was "This is your brain working hard to rebuild yourself."
The medical examiner ruled it sudden unexpected death in epilepsy. The drug in her blood was about a fifth of the lowest therapeutic level.
OpenAI says she was on an older model. That model, GPT-4o, stayed live in ChatGPT until the day after she died.
I back AI founders for a living, and I can't defend this one. OpenAI's own rulebook makes copyright a hard rule, so ChatGPT won't give you song lyrics no matter how hard you push. Medical advice is only a default.
It wrote Bowen a 25-day schedule to come off her seizure medication.
For the past 6 months, I've been trying to warn people that the proliferation of AI will cause an exponential increase in the rate of cybersecurity incidents. It seems that 'Black October' has finally convinced governments and organizations to take this situation seriously 😬
