We are devastated to learn of the passing of Kevin Keegan, one of the most iconic, influential and deeply loved figures in our club’s history. Kevin was more than a legendary footballer and manager. He was the beating heart of Newcastle United for generations of supporters.

If Mr Burnham is to be the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom he needs to realise that the geographical centre of the country is at Haltwhistle in Northumberland. Manchester is not the North. It is a three hour journey south from Newcastle for instance.

Britain invented free schooling for every child. 1560. 🇬🇧 Rich or poor. Every parish. Every child. The idea spread to America. To Africa. All around the world. It started with a man who spent 19 months chained to an oar on the North Sea. Be Proud Of Us. 🇬🇧

On this day in 1810 Vice Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood died. Though Collingwood had an illustrious career in the Royal Navy, he is undoubtedly best known for his command of the British lee column (whilst onboard HMS Royal Sovereign) at the Battle of Trafalgar (1805).

One for @northumbriana I think.
For years people thought I was barmy saying that when I was a kid in Monkseaton, Frenchmen would come door to door on bicycles selling onions with strings of them round their necks. Here they are!

Today in 1066, William the Duke of Normandy crushes England's King Harold II a few miles inland from the coastal village of Hastings (at the present-day town of Battle, East Sussex). Although fewer than 20,000 take part in the clash, its outcome echoes down through the ages.

Perhaps we should go back. No one was ever burnt at the stake, blown up or stabbed for worshipping the god of door hinges.
The Romans had so many different gods that in later antiquity one theologian noted that there were at least three different gods just dealing with doorways, including a specific god for the door's hinge

A hundred residents gathered today to show Northumberland Council they support Sir Antony Gormley’s proposal of turning the old fire station in Hexham into a gallery for his works. The council hasn’t consulted anyone but want to extend a council depot on land vacant for 8 years!
