Most Apple users already have the Lightning cables. I have way more of them than I do of USB-C since it appeared a good 4-5 yrs before USB-C became standard. If Apple changed format just 4 years after their Lightning change people would have complained

But they didn’t keep changing them. One change from a 20 year old standard for the phone. On the laptops they had MagSafe which didn’t do data and so wasn’t suitable for the ipod/iPhone. they changed that one time as as well

In fairness they changed the connector once - from the iPod 30pin to the Lightning. That was more than 10 years ago.
