A huge amount of the Anti-AI code sentiment massively overestimates the quality of human code outside of a very small set of open source and high quality company codebases. Human Slop is everywhere and can trivially be improved on by any opus level model.

Just when you thought databases can't get any better @SurrealDB casually drops an entire ecosystem upgrade. Someone over there clearly hasn't heard of taking a break. Amazing to see all the hard work coming together. 👏

There is still no substitute for caring. Every piece of software getting rapidly better is happening because a human cares. And happens to be using AI to move really fast.

If you’re building Agents, definitely worth building the voice layer with @GradiumAI’s Phonon - completely runs on device. Built a simple demo here with Agent Memory, to research and use TTS.
Our friends at @SurrealDB built a notes app on Phonon that analyzes your notes and reads the findings back to you, all on-device. Phonon, our on-device TTS + SurrealDB Agent Memory. Open source: github.com/surrealdb/surreal…

Most databases are sized for their busiest hour and paid for every other hour too. SurrealDB Earth is sized for this second. Its cells on @Cloudflare follow the load, from 100,000 transactions per second to zero. Scale up. Scale down. Zero effort. 🔗 sdb.li/4sIMEu5

Great to see @Discord embracing Rust. With memory getting more expensive and demand for faster, more efficient compute growing, we're truly entering the Rust era. 🦀
We've been early adopters of Rust since 2018 and a lot of our infra, voice tech, and even some of the current client is already Rust, the holy grail was getting the whole client there. That means Electron goes away, and so does React Native, mobile keeps native UI but shares app code with desktop via Rust. We hope to get it into testing with users soon™. (And it's not Tauri, it's GPUI, so good guess everyone.) Alright, back to staring at the WoW Forever login screen.

One query. Thousands of compute units. One answer. A SurrealDB Earth query is split across thousands of database compute cells on @Cloudflare and merged into one result, every leg reading the same point in time. 10+ billion peak rows per second, fully transactional. 🔗 sdb.li/4sHnxYH

Serverless databases have a reputation for being the small, convenient option, not the fast one. I wanted to see how far I could push that. This week we launched @SurrealDB Earth, serverless SurrealDB on @Cloudflare. It starts when a query arrives and scales to zero when nobody is using it. So I pointed it at 5 billion rows and asked it to count them. In a single second, it read more than 4.5 billion of them. That is over 90% of the table, more than 350 GB of data, in one second. Every number here is from a real run, not a projection. There was no cluster to provision and nothing to size. The parallelism appeared the moment the query needed it and was gone the moment it finished. And it is the full SurrealDB engine, with ACID transactions. It is not perfect yet. 99.6% of the work finishes fast, but the slowest 0.4% still drags the full count out to several seconds. I know why, and my target is the entire query in under 2 seconds. Honestly, I still find it hard to believe. I am convinced this design has orders of magnitude left in it, on reads, on writes, and in places I have not talked about yet. I will be recording a video soon with much bigger numbers. The small, convenient option just got very fast. I am really proud of what this team has built 🌍

Major moment for @SurrealDB Building a database is an incredible grind - if you get that initial open-source pop, you then face years of unglamorous hard work to build a truly world class product SurrealDB 4 is now that product. Multi-model (vector, graph, document), ACID compliant, w/ a rebuilt engine, native Postgres/MySQL support + massive scalability via @Cloudflare handling 10B+ peak rows/sec The modern database for the agentic era.

A few years ago @at_chiru and I started talking about what it would take to run SurrealDB serverless, on Cloudflare. Today we’re launching SurrealDB Earth. I got to lead a lot of the engineering behind it, and it’s been a wild ride. 1/6

@SurrealDB luckily released v4 today on exam day. If it was comming out in the last days, learning would have gone horrible wrong I think🫣 Now I got some nice after exam treat, thankss✨
