Back in 2008, Imran Khan spoke about Muslim representation in Western politics. Decades ago, many would have laughed at the idea and him.
Today, it’s happening.
And the man who envisioned this is sitting in isolation, imprisoned by Pakistan’s army.

Seeing people celebrate how much their vote matters takes me back to the time when we were all so hopeful. Despite the bans, raids etc, people still came out to vote. We were celebrating Imran Khan winning 180+ seats, only to wake up next morning & watch our mandate being stolen.

I fucking love how Abdul El Sayed owns his Arabness. The unapologetically Arabic pronunciation of his name, casually dropping inshallah and alhamdulillah, and not giving a single fk about people mocking him for it. I wish we had this kind of confidence and acceptance everywhere.

The fact that Americans are still wondering why outsiders are so concerned with their elections, your lunatic president might drop a nuke on us man …😭

As a Pakistani, there’s something heartbreaking about this too. For all its political flaws & entrenched capitalist lobbies, even the most disillusioned American voter goes to the polls trusting in the system to change their future. It’s a hope we don’t have with our elections
