The ER is something else. The amount of activity is super overwhelming. I can’t imagine being a nurse working at this pace. The sounds of patients screaming, the machines beeping, the scrape of the curtains opening. All sounds you become familiar with. All sounds that become part of your memory of this horrible time in your life. You know you need to be here but you’d rather be anywhere but here. You long to rewind time back to a place where this beast we call addiction didn’t have its hooks in your loved one. You yearn for a time that has past, grieve for a person who no longer exists, but is laying right in front of you. If the love of a family could cure addiction, it wouldn’t exist. I pray for all the mothers who have been where I sit now. I pray for peace. I pray for release of your worries. I pray for recovery.
On Wednesday afternoon, Berkeley exhausted all sources of medical mutual aid. It was a 25 minute wait for an ambulance for someone actively having a stroke.
Alameda County & City, Piedmont & Albany were all maxed out.

I think it’s awesome that people raised $200k for Walt, the Red Baron worker who was harassed by a dumb prankster.
But what nobody’s talking about is how his company was sold to a Korean conglomerate — which then cut pay, gutted benefits, and forced unpaid mandatory overtime.
