Proactive Drupal Engineering. Architecting scalable, high-performance solutions for 20 years. De-risking complex migrations.

Drupal 7 reached its final end-of-life over a year and a half ago. If your enterprise or university is still running on it, you aren't just accumulating technical debt, you are failing basic compliance audits. The biggest mistake IT directors make is trying to force a 1:1 migration to Drupal 11. Your data structures from 2015 do not map to modern headless architecture. You will burn your Q4 budget wrestling with legacy database schemas. Stop migrating blindly. Run a Phase 1 Architecture Sprint first. Map the database. Assess if a decoupled Next.js/React frontend makes sense for your traffic. Build the API blueprint. Infrastructure first. Code second.

If you’ve been writing PHP for a couple of decades, you occasionally open a file from 2012 and realize how much defensive programming we used to write just to survive loose typing.

The old way: manual type checking, loose comparisons, and the constant fear of a missing `break;` statement in a `switch` causing a silent failure in production.

The exact same logic today. Strict types block invalid data at the door. The `match` expression removes type coercion bugs, forbids fallthroughs, and directly returns the value. Less code, self-documenting, and mathematically secure.

Manual Drupal updates are a tax. If you run enterprise architecture, your team needs these exact Composer/Drush commands to keep production secure. Read our survival guide to manage the debt today, while we build the tool to kill it tomorrow. joshics.in/blog-post/how-upd…

When a legacy architecture buckles under load, the standard industry response is to halt development and rewrite the entire system from scratch. This is an expensive mistake that burns capital and freezes market position. Read more: play.google.com/store/books/…

PHP is going to outlive most of the shiny new tools people are leaving it for.

A critical PHP security patch drops today. Some engineers are currently convincing their CFO to delay it because they know an update will shatter their fragile legacy code. When fear of your own codebase delays security, tech debt is a direct financial liability.

One day, we will be able to update #Drupal without fearing about losing the data. Right now, every major version jump still feels like defusing a bomb where the wires are made of deprecated APIs, custom entity schemas, and a single load-bearing contrib patch from four years ago. Never skip the staging dry-run.

Every #JurassicPark pitch meeting for the last 30 years: "Okay, hear me out: we open an enclosure." "And they escape?" "Obviously. Then the lead character has to sneak into a nest to grab something." "While the majestic theme music plays?" "Periodically, yes." "What about the next movie?" "Same thing, but they buy new gadgets and make up a new excuse."

The biggest threat to enterprise architecture is not bad code. It is complexity. We keep adding SaaS layers until nobody understands the system anymore. I wrote a book on how to strip it all back. "Ruthless Simplification" is free on Google Play. play.google.com/store/books/…

The worst way to use AI is generating backend boilerplate you don't actually understand. Code must be deterministic. The best way to use AI is to automate your operations. We build custom autonomous agents to handle the unstructured chaos of enterprise business, reading messy vendor invoices, auditing compliance files, and routing complex internal workflows end-to-end. Engineer the core architecture by hand. Let AI agents automate the rest.

Everyone defaults to public cloud until the monthly AWS bill hits the CFO's desk. We are seeing a massive shift of enterprise teams repatriating workloads back to bare metal. With modern provisioning (like @Canonical MAAS), you get the elasticity of the cloud without renting expensive abstractions. If you don't need infinite scale, stop paying infinite premiums. Own your infrastructure. Read our blueprint on enterprise digital transformation: joshics.in/solutions/enterpr…

Everyone blames the rural telecom network when their field app is slow. Usually, it is just bad architecture. I recently audited an API pushing 2MB of nested JSON just to update a 10-field mobile form. Default Drupal CMS serializers will kill your app in low-bandwidth areas. We wrote a custom serializer, dropped the payload to 15KB, and suddenly the "network issue" disappeared. Optimize your payloads before you rewrite your app.
