Fantasy Basketball thoughts on last night's mega 15-game NBA slate... Cavs losing to OKC when it was just SGA (43 pts), Ajay (20 pts), and all their role players is pretty poor. Bright spots were Meleek Thomas (17 pts) and Mario Hezonja (12-8-3), who both stepped up with Peyton Watson and Jaylon Tyson out. But it's pretty easy to see how important those two are to this team, especially defensively. Detroit thumped Charlotte, behind 33 from Cade and 24 from Dunc-Rob (6 threes). John Collins stunk and was in foul trouble all night. I'm not dropping yet, but wouldn't blame you. Coby White played only 16 min in his return, but that was enough for Schroder and Allen to become pretty useless. Kon is set to return any day now, so those two are easy cuts. Sixers handled the Bulls with ease, putting them away in the second half with Maxey closing strong and scoring 26 (he's yet to go under 25 this year) I am officially worried about Matas; he was the first starter subbed out in the third quarter. Not sure what's up with him, but he is NOT a drop candidate. Wizards won and are now 4-3. AD, Dybantsa, and Kyshawn all had nice games and benefited from Alex Sarr's absence. Ayton did basically nothing in a spot start, with Coulibaly picking up extra minutes (33) when they went small. TDS couldn't hit a shot, but attempted 10 threes and finished 10-4-3 in 32 min. HOLD. Indiana played six guys, none of whom are really even on our radar in standard leagues. NAW had 34 points, while Okongwu went 13-10-3 with Jalen Johnson out. Not much to glean here. The Nets stink, and Day'Ron Sharpe followed up his best game of the year with a 4-6-3 dud. Mo Wagner wasn't even good off the bench either. It was a B2B and a tough matchup vs. the Knicks, but I can already hear Sharpe being dropped across many leagues. I'll be holding for the B2B on Sat/Sun against ATL + DAL. Memphis-New Orleans was an OT thriller, with Ty Jerome dropping another 40-burger. Cam Spencer was predictably good off the bench (13-and-7), while it was Zion and Matkovic (yes, PICK HIM UP) leading the way with 25 each for the Pels. Fear stunk (12-and-7 on 5-for-17 shooting, 0-for-6 from three) even without Dejounte, and this is proof of why I'm not buying into some of his big games. Queen had 20-7-5, with Bey adding 18-5 in 36 min. Not buying into Bey long-term, but he's worth a look until we see what's going on with Murray. Minnesota beat Milwaukee behind 34 from LaMelo. He was a buy-low target of @DanBesbris, but that window is closed. Ayo flirted with a triple-double and should be awesome. Brayden Burries started over Ryan Rollins, who played only 17 min. I'd probably hold Rollins another game or two to see what happens here, but he's heading towards drop territory. The Jazz got worked over by the Spurs, with only Lauri (22-8-3) and Peterson (14-4-6 and 6 stocks) doing much for Utah. Spurs starters all played well but sat out most of the fourth quarter in a blowout. The Kings won! Cooper Flagg couldn't hit a shot (3-for-19 shooting), and no one else stepped up. Walter Clayton had 20 points off the bench, but remember that Kyrie was out. For the Kings, it was 25 pts for Acuff, 24 from Monk (off the bench) and 23 from LaVine. Sabonis had a terrible line of 9-7-4 and clearly wants out - can you blame him? The Rockets had no problem with the Celtics, who were down PG13. Sengun had 26-7-10. Queta started over Mitch Rob for Boston and played 26 min to Robinson's 15. I think that move sticks. The Blazers got a big win in Denver behind 28 points from Deni and 17-8-10 from Jrue in 30 min off the bench. He should be rostered everywhere with Morant out. GSW beat Phoenix behind 34 points from Steph. Charles Bassey had 19-and-8 as Draymond got ejected. Maluach was lousy in 13 min and Oso outplayed him off the bench. I'm holding Mal, but I sense he'll be dropped in a lot of leagues. Toronto beat the Clippers behind 22-15-8 from Scottie, 26 pts from RJB, and 27 points from IQ. Oh, and CMB started at center, played 28 minutes, and had 18-and-7 with 2 blocks and a three. STOP THE DROP TALK PLZ. I-Jax outplayed Brook Lopez, who started and fouled out. Garland continued his gross turnovers (7) and is clearly not the same fantasy player on a bad team with no help as he was in Cleveland, surrounded by finishers. The Lakers rolled up Miami, scoring 138 points with 42 from Luka and 27 from Reaves. Kessler had a solid 15-15-2, but the only other Laker role player with a decent line was Mamu (13-3-4, 2 steals, 2 threes). Andrew Wiggins was bad and only played 24 minutes. He was already on the watch list last week and will be getting dropped in a lot of leagues. I'll hold in 12-teamers a bit longer...
