“Solo mining a Bitcoin block is harder than winning the lottery”
While technically true, it's also deeply misleading.
Why? Because bitcoin mining gives you 144 chances per day, not just one.
And that frequency changes everything.
It's at least 46x more likely to solo mine a block per day.
I researched the two most popular lotteries: PowerBall and Mega Millions, and compared them to the odds of mining a block with 1 TH on the bitcoin network.
I used 900EH/s for the total network for simplicity.
What I learned might surprise you.
At first glance, the odds of hitting a block are much worse than winning the lottery, 3 times worse, in fact.
- 1 in 292M Powerball Jackpot odds
- 1 in 303M Mega Millions odds
- 1 in 900M for hitting a block
But that doesn't tell the full story.
This "one bitcoin block = one lottery drawing" is where the misconception is rooted.
Lottery drawings are infrequent events, while bitcoin mining is a relentless race
- Powerball drawings are 3x/week
- Mega Million drawings are 2x/week
- Bitcoin networks produces ~144 blocks daily and ~1008 blocks in a week
Even though the odds per block are low, when given 144 chances per day, your chance of at least one success grows pretty quickly.
Cumulative odds matter.
You check the lottery per day, or weekly, so those time frames are a more realistic baseline for comparison.
The probability of mining a block in a day is 1 in 6.25M
- 46 times better than the Powerball
- 48 times better than the Mega Millions
The gap widens when we look at longer time horizons (assuming buying 1 ticket per lottery drawing).
Per Week:
- Powerball (3x/week) 1 in 97M
- Mega Millions (2x/week) 1 in 151M
- 1TH Mini Miner (1008 attempts) 1 in 892k ✅
At least 108x better odds per week
Per Month:
- Powerball (12x/month) 1 in 22M
- Mega Millions (8x/month) 1 in 35M
- 1TH Mini Miner (4320 attempts) 1 in 208k ✅
At least 105x better odds per month
Per Year:
- Powerball (156x/year) 1 in 1.87M
- Mega Millions (104x/year) 1 in 2.90M
- 1TH Mini Miner (over 52,000 attempts) 1 in 17k ✅
At least 110x better odds per year
The numbers say it all.
When you repeat unlikely events often, your chance of success compounds.
So if you're comparing solo mining vs the lottery,
Don't compare one block to one ticket.
Compare a day of mining to one draw, where you would need to buy 46-48 lottery tickets to achieve the same odds.
When viewed over time, solo mining is far more likely to hit the "jackpot"
If you play the lottery regularly, do yourself a favor
Start home mining and never look back.

Bank of America puts Bitcoin in the same tier as the printing press, steam engine, light bulb, and World Wide Web.

This is a land grab. This is a gold rush.
You don't have to participate... but your descendants will wish you had.
This is the second wave of the Digital Revolution - the digitization of value to complement the Internet's digitization of information.
It wasn't possible to own a slice of the Internet itself, but it is possible with Bitcoin, the internet of value.
But what's crucial to understand about this protocol of digital value is...
There will only ever be 21M #Bitcoin.
@Eric_BIGfund recently told me that this fact was what grabbed Saylor's attention after years of dismissing Bitcoin. Here's why...
There are 8B people on the planet. That means that there's only ~0.0025 BTC per person.
But most of it is already accounted for. Only 5.4% remains to be mined (~1.1M BTC). And of the already circulating supply, probably ~16M is held by believers with no intention to sell between here and $1M/BTC.
That means ~5M BTC is still up for grabs.
And yet, only ~0.2% of the world's $1000T of capital has shifted into Bitcoin.
That means that 1% of the world has a 20% allocation to Bitcoin... but the remaining 99% of the world still has a 0% allocation.
1% of the world fighting over ~16M BTC took us from $0/BTC to $100k/BTC.
How high will the price go as the remaining 99% of the world fights over 1/3 as much available Bitcoin? If it's only linear, that would mean ~300x higher.
Meanwhile, Saylor's bullish prediction for 20 years from now is $49M/BTC, which would be a ~500x from today.
It feels like you're late to Bitcoin. But this is a bigger game playing out than most realize, and we are much earlier than casual observers know.
If you're reading this, you're here on the frontier early. And you have a chance to stake a claim before 99% of the world shows up.
This is a land grab. This is the digital gold rush. Make your descendants proud.

Bitcoin exists because bankers can print money in secret, out of thin air, anytime they want...
Bankers created the Federal Reserve as a private co. in 1913
By 2000, 87 years later, the Fed bankers printed ~$4.6 trillion M2 money supply
From 2000 to 2025, the Fed printed an additional $17 trillion in secret, out of thin air, a ~360% increase, raising the M2 money supply to $21.6 trillion.
Which means ~80% of the money that exists today was printed in the last 25 years, with no public justification.
There are no ledgers, no audits, no votes, no records, and no accountability for the $21.6 trillion dollars that exist today, that any private citizen has ever seen. And there is no accountability, no explanation and no documents for review on the printing of ~80% of the money that has ever existed in the last 25 years.
Bitcoin replaced this archaic and secretive system with public unalterable ledgers with perfect accountability, that self-audit every 10 minutes, viewable by every citizen 24/7, that no one can manipulate.
These Bitcoin accounting rails are the best accounting technology the world has ever seen, and why $100,000 is early and cheap, $1,000,000 is next.

This is hilarious
The Guardian just posted a video, containing noise from a gas plant, and called it "noise from cryptocurrency mining facility", and then ran an entire article on Bitcoin and noise based on this "evidence".
I won't dwell on the other numerous factually incorrect claims, lazy attempt to neuro-associate Bitcoin with Trump despite the fact that Bitcoin users exist evenly across the political spectrum, misleading use of a cover photo that isn't even of the Granbury town being reported on, use of already-debunked studies such as Wood McKenzie, or ignoring of 20 peer reviewed full length papers showing clearly that Bitcoin mining has strong environmental benefits. There's a new level of misreporting that's newsworthy in itself to focus on this time.
The first thing that anyone who understands the domain of Bitcoin and energy will notice from the video embedded in the Guardian article, and on their news site on Youtube, is that this is a gas plant visually in view. OK, not damning yet. Maybe the close-by Bitcoin mining site was causing the noise from out of shot?
Intrigued, I clicked play.
Second, anyone who's ever set foot in a Bitcoin mining facility will instantly realize that not what's not bitcoin mining rigs sound like (a high pitched whirr). This is the lower frequency sound of a gas plant.
Third, the local resident even says "the valve blow has gone on all night long". (Value blow refers to combustion gases escaping past a closed or partially sealed valve)
In other words, the resident understands that the source of the noise is the gas plant, which is where they are pointing the camera. She goes on to say "And here Constellation energy wants a third power plant in the area", again showing clear awareness that the noise is caused by a gas plant, not Bitcoin mining ASICS.
While there was a time when the ASICS were the primary noise concern, the journalist goes on to admit later in the article that by November 2024, "a sound wall had been constructed, two-thirds of machines had been replaced with immersion cooling, and an independent sound survey found levels to be below the legal limit of 85 decibels."
In other words, Bitcoin mining noise is no longer news.
So why report it?
Why in particular misreport it and falsely attribute the noise of a gas plant to Bitcoin mining?
And why ignore the real news that happened two days before this non-news/fake-news piece was published: the release of the most comprehensive report on Bitcoin mining ever produced. For context, Cambridge are widely regarded by policymakers and regulators as the Gold Standard for data on Bitcoin mining.
Had The Guardian prioritized fact-based environmental reporting, they would have published an article about the Cambridge report which showed Bitcoin had achieved 52.4% sustainable energy use, that the Bitcoin eWaste "issue" The Guardian had previously reported on turned out to have been overstated by 1150%, and that Bitcoin mining was found to be mitigating methane and stabilizing grids at scale.
I guess that wasn't the story they wanted to tell.
But if you're going to keep running Bitcoin hitpieces, despite the fact that there are 20 peer reviewed studies showing positive environmental externalities, at least learn the difference between a Bitcoin mining rig and a gas plant.
