The businesses that live with standards and compliance every day are bringing their experience to #ATDF2026.
When a shipment is rejected or held for retesting at a border, the cost lands on a company’s balance sheet first. That’s why Africa’s private sector has a seat at the table in Addis Ababa.
@vimalafrica, @gizeshwork_tess, @JoachimWesterv2, Nohémie Mawaka, @sonia_U15, @ZHamoui, @bosolar2011, Rostam Azizi, Anthony Githinji, Winnie Wambui Githinji, Yonas Alemu, Issufo Malaze and @Angeluwantege will sit down with Africa’s trade decision-makers to share what it really takes to meet buyers’ requirements, and what would make it faster and cheaper to do so.
Their experience will help shape the solutions and commitments agreed at the Forum.

Let us stop looking at borders as barriers & start viewing them as bridges to a more peaceful, prosperous and integrated Africa.
Thank you @AUC_PAPS for the opportunity. Let us remain engaged beyond #ABF2026, towards promoting the free movement of goods and people across Africa
The first half of day 2 of the Abidjan Border Forum focused on cross-border integration, featuring a public lecture by H.E. Adama Dosso, representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on the challenges of integration in a changing Africa, moderated by Dr Paul Simon Handy, Regional Director, @issafrica.
It was followed by a panel discussion on cross-border cooperation for the integration of peoples, moderated by Mr Jacques Essissongo of Congo 🇨🇬, with contributions from Mr Issoufou Yao of the Sikasso-Korhogo-Bobo-Dioulasso Cross-Border Local Authorities Union, Dr Jabulile Mzimela of 🇿🇦, Mr Galma Agah of the Peace Committee in Sollolo Subcounty 🇰🇪, and Ms Gertrude Rose Gamwera Buyiga 🇺🇬 Discussions focused on decentralisation and cross-border cooperation; local knowledge, mobility, cultural ties, and life on the border; the links between cross-border cooperation and informal structures; and collaboration among cross-border local authorities.
Prof. Innocent Moyo also moderated a roundtable on opportunities and prospects for cross-border trade across Africa, with contributions from Mr Ziad Hamoui of 🇬🇭, Mr Yao Gnangoran of the Noé Intervention Unit of the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Organisation, Mme Jeanne Nlate of FOTRAC and Mr Moses Mugisa of 🇺🇬.
Critical recommendations included the need to strengthen cooperation between the AU, RECs and Member States in implementing an integrated border governance towards the actualisation of the @AfCFTA. At the borders, scaling up industrialisation and value-added production and transport and logistics networks towards improving intra-Africa trade, promoting Good neighbourliness and cross-border development projects, supporting economic activities in border communities and promoting social cohesion across borders.

“When we look at cross-border trade along West African corridors, the most absurd and economically regressive non-tariff barrier isn't a structural tariff. It's what I would like to call the paper versus pavement documentation asymmetry” - Ziad Hamoui (@ZHamoui), Co- founder and President of Borderless Alliance (@borderlesswa)
During our webinar on “Advancing an Integrated and Visa-Free Africa to Move, Connect, and Trade Freely, Overcoming Afrophobia,” Ziad Hamoui, Co-founder and President, Borderless Alliance, highlighted a critical contradiction: while regional frameworks support the free movement of goods, the traders transporting them, particularly women and small-scale entrepreneurs, continue to face unnecessary documentation hurdles, extortion, and prolonged border delays.
The consequences are far-reaching:
- Limited awareness of regional trade protocols leaves thousands vulnerable.
- Informal payments and corruption increase the cost of doing business.
- Hours spent at checkpoints lead to the spoilage of fresh produce and the loss of livelihoods.
An integrated Africa cannot be built on policies that facilitate trade on paper but obstruct it on the ground.
Removing visa barriers, harmonising border procedures, and protecting the rights of traders are essential steps toward unlocking the full potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and creating a continent where people, goods, and opportunities move freely.
It’s time to Make Africa Borderless Now!
Join the movement. Watch the story. Share the vision. And add your voice by signing the Make Africa Borderless Now! petition, calling for freer movement of people, goods, services and digital commerce across our continent.
Together, we can turn ambition into action and opportunity into shared prosperity.

With Africa’s combined 1.2 billion pop & $3.4 trillion GDP, the potential gains from integrating the continent are huge.
However, intra-African trade is still just 14.2% of total goods
trade, partly because of the high costs of trading across borders.
Let's #IntegrateAfrica!
