@loombotic We’re launching the world’s first quick-turn, high-mix, fully automated wire harness production line. Our goal is to make wire harnesses as fast and easy to order as PCBs or sheet metal. Customers can already upload a harness design and get an instant quote. Starting today, these parts can now be produced on our automated line. We’re starting with Mini-Fit Jr., with more connectors coming soon.

CAD is all about design intent - I honestly think text to cad or some variation is the way forward
ai won't replace cad designers. it'll replace designers who don't understand manufacturing. if you can't look at a generated model and immediately spot the draft angle that won't release from the mold, that's the gap.

It seems like the opposite is true and the best funded hardware startups almost never win Tesla > Rivian Rocket Lab > Relativity DJI > GoPro, 3DRobotics Fitbit > Jawbone Formlabs > Carbon, Desktop Metal I'm sure there are many more examples

Pretty sure it’s a question of money, not willingness, endurance or stomach. Companies run out of money or people realize the opportunity cost is insane (and not “chasing riches” kind, but rather “family living comfortably” kind)

Claude can actually do CAD now in @Onshape Here it worked for an hour and built a 4-part monitor arm, starting only from a sketch and description. The trick was to give it the tools to look at its own work. Introducing: Jarvis Onshape MCP

Full writeup with benchmark data: I tested Claude on a dozen reference parts. The (un)surprising result is that the bottleneck isn't CAD execution, it's image understanding. Once you describe a part cleanly, the model builds it reliably. reshef.io/a/20260420_onshape…

If you want to increase your surface area for luck, focus on producing proof of work. You will make yourself a bigger target for luck.

best thing I ever did for my career was to start reading @hardwarefyi weekly pulls back the curtain on modern mechanical and electrical engineering. explains from first principles. really high alpha. can't recommend it highly enough
Conformal coating under UV light. The dye reveals gaps in coverage, useful when you're sealing boards against moisture and corrosion.

Spent a few weeks mapping the climate & energy landscape: startups, emerging infrastructure, and lots in-between. Mostly just moved a lot of logos around.

learned about this a few weeks ago and ended up going down a rabbit hole and put a bunch of them into an airtable: airtable.com/appD130Juo6FE1c…
TIL you could find some quite detailed teardown photos of products "that contains an RF device" on FCC website. (also plenty of other reports, test setup photos etc)
