Let me get this straight. Work all your life building a business. Sell that business to a rando - charged at 24%. Try to pass it on to your family - charged at 45%. Genuinely insane telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

A lot of things that Britain treats as sacrosanct are actually just Blairite inventions that haven't been around for very long.
Ofcom has only existed since 2003. The Supreme Court has only existed since 2009. The OBR has only existed since 2010.

One of my favourite quotes, from when a British MP learnt that no other country in the world has a scheme like ours.
This @WSJ piece on the UK's runaway disability benefits is something else. Great color from @MaximColch & @davidluhnow
So apparently live streaming an execution is abhorrent, but posting videos of an autistic teenager being mauled to death by a tiger is fair game. What is wrong with this platform!?

Scoop: I have heard from a source familiar with the RAF Fairford story that the US feared a drone a attack similar to Ukraine’s Operation Spiderweb last year which destroyed 10 Russian aircraft. They fear Iran might copy the tactics and that drones might even already be in UK, hence abrupt departure of B1s.

They were surprised to learn that there was no life saving equipment in the… EXECUTION ROOM
There was no medical oxygen or mask in the execution chamber where Tennessee tried and failed to kill convicted murderer Christa Pike, which meant staff had to go and get it when things went wrong, according to a source who witnessed what happened. nbcnews.com/news/us-news/-me…

Oh my god, Firebase’s SDK started to crash ALL iOS apps that were using it, for ALL sessions, just like that, no way for any of these apps to do anything…
How amateur is all of this from any SDK, but especially one from a company with as high of an engineering bar like Google…

A few observations from a week in London:
1/ The startup energy here is completely different than 10y ago. The level of risk taking, ambition, and talent has changed dramatically
2/ There remains a huge fintech opportunity here. Revolut, GoCardless, and many others were built on the incredible finance talent in London
3/ Their vision in building public transit infrastructure is peerless in the west

I will say this: London + UK not being part of the EU (and thus not being as bound by regulation that slows down innovation) is a reason the UK's tech industry can pull away from the rest of Europe
Even if Europe decided to deregulate today, the opportunity cost is gone w eg AI
