It seems Austin D8 candidate Selena Xie appeared in her EMS uniform at a political event—violating state law & city rules. Shown with CMs Mike Siegel & Ryan Alter, & @WalkableAustin. Greg claims this photo was 6 months ago, "before she ran," but Xie launched June 2025. 🧐

Cruz is on the campaign trail in Grosse Pointe, Michigan prosecuting El-Sayed, and he’s compelling.

If Talarico were running against Cruz or Cornyn this would be no contest.

Free Ancient Rome history class from UATX. This looks like fun to me.
Tomorrow we're releasing a full UATX course for free: all 19 lectures of Professor Isabella Reinhardt's Rise and Fall of Ancient Rome, filmed in class with our students. It runs from Rome's mythical founding to the Third Century Crisis. It ends on a question the class spent a whole session arguing about: did Rome ever really fall?

Wow. UN Ambassador Mike Waltz. 🇺🇸 💪
"This isn't Havana." Cuba's foreign minister charged the podium at the UN to stop Mike Waltz mid-speech. Waltz: "Do you understand who you're dealing with? This is America."

Fraud is the issue of our age.
Ya'll, this is nuts. Hundreds - that's right, HUNDREDS - of armed robberies between 2022 and 2024 weren't real. They were staged by the "victims" as part of a massive immigration fraud scheme to secure U-visas for themselves and their families. cwbchicago.com/2026/10/buckt…

The author of Austin’s Proposition I Outside Audit has been suspended from @Nextdoor for “disrespecting neighbors.” I’m reading the offending comments and not seeing the disrespect. I call BS.
Nextdoor suspended me for calling bullshit on the Democratic Party’s attacks on Prop i.

This is incredible. Must Watch. If you’re not impressed by the competency, you aren’t watching.
WATCH WHAT @60Minutes DIDN’T SHOW YOU. Here’s the FULL, uncut interview with @DHSGenCounsel James Percival.

This is really sad … that they wouldn’t just go back to Mali with him.
“It feels really empty without him,” says 16-year-old Corey Diawara, whose father was deported in July. His father had lived in the U.S. for 25 years and had no criminal record. Moussa Diawara says he was deported without being able to speak to his lawyer or a judge. He was eventually sent to Mali, a country a U.S. immigration judge ruled he could not be deported to. In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security told 60 Minutes that Ghana had provided the U.S. with “diplomatic assurances for his safety.” DHS also questioned the credibility of Diawara’s arguments for fearing persecution in Mali. cbsn.ws/4etdVdW

I really enjoyed You Can See Everything and I love Nathan Fielder. Even so, there's really no getting around what an unethical travesty his Elizabeth Holmes documentary is. reason.com/2026/10/26/nathan…

You Can See Everything plays like a 3-hour Nathan For You episode where Fielder poses as a "documentary filmmaker." Terrific, but it easily could have been cut down to 90 minutes.

ATTN: @Nextdoor — we've got a problem. Former Travis County Judge @AleshireLaw drafted a proposition to amend the Austin City Charter to require an independent efficiency audit. A bi-partisan coalition of 20,000 local voters put it on this NOV ballot. It's purely local politics. Can we really not discuss LOCAL politics on Nextdoor?

Elon said it: the AI bubble popped As someone who made a little scratch in the Ai-training space, I could feel it weeks ago. Lots of mass off-boarding and shuttered projects.
Replying to @chamath
Pretty much. As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers. SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue. That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.

I just made the total “NW-side newb”mistake of going to the AMC Lakeline. No stadium seating. 🤦‍♂️

Is discussion of Prop i banned from NextDoor? The ND controllers closed the discussion i started about Props A, B, and i that had over 180 responses and 4,000 hits because it “violated community standards.” Really? So, let’s discuss ELECTION FRAUD—the kind where political tricksters lie and misdirect attention from the merits of the proposal for a mandated and more comprehensive Performance Audit with a Pay-For provision like no one else (including the City) is doing—a nonpartisan issue—and paint it with partisan excrement. In a healthy political environment, a nonpartisan idea like this will be judged on its content without voters deciding whether to support or oppose it solely based on who supports or opposes it. But that’s what’s going on the campaign against Prop i. Such an unhealthy political environment is just exactly how people—like the overtaxed, cheated taxpayers of unaffordable City of Austin—end up voting against their own best interest.

In major metros, there are “Airbnb turnaround” providers, much like you’d get in a hotel. Expecting guests to turnaround the rental themselves was a stupid trend among bad hosts. Good on Airbnb for squashing that and protecting their guest experience.
As a successful Airbnb owner, here's the biggest thing that people don't understand about the cleaning fee: Its primary purpose is to make short (one night) stays more expensive. It's the only way to achieve that pricing result. Two night minimums hurt business.

Austin council member Zo Qadri wants to study why Red River businesses keep closing. Easy fix: ask his political buddy DA José Garza. He's had a front-row seat to every crime he didn't prosecute and every repeated criminal released to roam and terrorize this area. @downtownatx @DowntownATXInfo
