🗽 Sometimes safety arrives the moment we least expect it. Émigré / Americana joins the lineup for the NFMLA February Monthly Film Festival | InFocus: Black Cinema, offering an intimate, haunting meditation on visibility, desire, and the fragile promise of belonging. ✨🎥 Synopsis: On the day his asylum application is finally set to be approved, a Pakistani immigrant is attacked in public, his long-awaited sense of safety abruptly undone. In the aftermath, a stranger intervenes—and what follows is not just rescue, but an intimacy that lingers. For the first time, he is not invisible. He is protected, desired and seen in his full humanity. The connection is immediate and intoxicating, even as it is shaped by imbalance, privilege, and unspoken need. Set over the course of a single day, Émigré/Americana dwells in the charged space where survival gives way to intimacy and asks: in a country built to divide, what does it cost to choose connection? Émigré/Americana ✍️🎥 Writer, Director: Usman Ally 🎭 Starring: Mouzam Makkar: @MouzamMakkar Britt Baron: @brittbaron 🎥 Producers: Courtney Rowe, Desmin Borges, Atil Singh, Kristoffer Diaz, Vance Smith, Justin Kirk 🎬🌍 A powerful reflection on what it means to be seen — and what it costs to belong. 🎟️ Learn more: newfilmmakersla.com/events/
