Groundbreaking case! Court ruled that the Sunday Mail defamed two experts (MD & PhD) who made claims that satins cause harm. The Mail was forced to issue an apology.
This means that UK media will need to be far more wary of writing one-sided 'hit' articles in the future.
The Mail not only gave a one-sided account, it took a harsh quote by the UK health minister out of context and pretended it applied to these experts--when he was talking about something entirely different. The article was prominently placed over several pages.
Congrats to @zoeharcombe and @malcolmken for this win. They dared to take on a media giant and stuck with the case for 5 years.

Such fortitude to fight this through the courts for 5 years. Journalists should not be allowed to fabricate stories and those that do should be held to account.
Harcombe/Kendrick vs Associated Newspapers...
I'm delighted to say it's finally over!
5.5 years after the articles were published, they are down and an apology has been made.
Thank you SO much to everyone who made this even possible - especially Claire & Dominic at Carter-Ruck and Adrienne & Godwin at 5RB🙏🍾

Really interesting Nick, thanks 4 sharing Kalei's run. Did you follow what we did in 2020: 100 miles running over 5 days completely fasted. Keto adapted beforehand of course. Worked for us and proved carbohydrate fuelling is not a requirement but a choice
type1keto.com/zero-five-100/
🥩Doctor's #MeatMarathon (Read in full) 🙏
🏆What Happened🏆
Late last year friend and Harvard Med Student, Kalei, decided she wanted to break a 3 hour marathon while #Keto #Carnivore
For the non-runners, a sub 3 hour marathon is fast... Add on to that
(i) being female
(ii) being a crazy busy medical student working odd hours, studying for USMLE exams, completing sub-internships
(iii) planning a wedding and getting married 👰... Kalei had some extra obstacles
But being the total bad-a$$ beast of a human she is, she just did it: 2:58:04 running on primarily beef, eggs and animal fats
🤔WHY She Did It🤔
Let's be clear... I'm not coercing anyone into becoming a carnivore.
Heck, I'm not even carnivore myself (although pockets of social media seems to be under this impression by virtue of the fact that I express academic interest in this interesting metabolic health intervention that I think deserves further study)
However, I'm pretty happy to support friends, family, and peers in their experimentation(s). And, after we conducted and co-published on a pilot trial using continuous glucose monitors #CGM (cc @Levels) for medical education, Kalei started seriously experimenting with intermittent fasting, keto and carnivore, and found she felt really great eating keto-carnivore
Given her military and athletic background, she wanted to prove to herself (and others) that one can perform mentally and physically at an elite level fueled by fat.
For those "in the know," I realize it's not really much of a question; however, who doesn't love a good challenge! So - in the midst of residency applications, exams and getting married - she decided to add breaking a 3 hour marathon to her list of to-dos... and she to-did!
2:58:04 is a 6:47 min/mile pace.
🥓What this Proves🥓
I'm not / she's not / we're not claiming carnivore is "best" for marathon-level distance running (ultras might be a different story... but for another time).
However, I do think - and I think I can speak for more than myself when I say - #carnivore diet is misunderstood and unfairly stigmatized as a way of eating (WOE) from which some people certainly appear to benefit
At the very least, we should express curiosity in this WOE, invest in researching the use cases and consequences of human carnivory, and start/continue to have open-minded non-dogmatic discussions about the matter.
🫵How you can Support🫵
(1) Share, Follow <@ Kalei_Fit> on instagram if you're on IG.
Also have a Reel there you can share. She (Kalei_Fit) is at 185 followers right now... come on people... let's get her to 1K at the very least
(2) Share YOUR success story in a quote RT.
This isn't just for keto or carnivore folk. I don't care if you're low-carb, low-fat, vegan or anything else. If YOU have had success on YOUR personal n = 1, that deserves to be celebrated.
(3) Going forward, please help me in creating an open-minded anti-dogmatic community when speaking about #carnivore in particular.
This means - IMHO - limiting hyperbolic claims about "best diet for humans," logical fallacies about evolutionary design and longevity, Dunning-Kruger-esque commentary about ruminant flatulence, or fear mongering, etc.
Instead, let's target discussion at the specific questions at hand like:
🔥 What's the utility of a carnivore diet for autoimmune and inflammatory conditions? (PMID: 39296504)
🧠Mental Health Condition and Eating disorders? (10.3390/biomedicines12071553) cc @ChrisPalmerMD @drjenunwin
🫀 What's the impact on cardiovascular risk? #LMHR
🪲 What's the impact on the microbiome?
These are fair and open questions
Ht/ @SBakerMD @zbitter @DominicDAgosti2 for low-carb athletic consultations
Ht/ @IndependenceArk for fueling Kalei's amazing journey, and @ketobrainz @ketosavage for #ketobricks too!
Cc/ @lowcarbGP @DaveEDanna @realDaveFeldman @BiggestComeback @DrEricRodgers @ValerieAnne1970 and all the others (and there are MANY of us) who know what it's like to live a lifestyle that's misunderstood and stigmatized by society. Let's change that... not because one "should" be carnivore or keto to run marathons... but because one should be permitted to eat that way if they choose without being stigmatized... is that so unreasonable?
Superb. Common sense!

Today is my 37th birthday. Yesterday I went to the US senate and spoke my truth - as a physician, as a woman, and a living being striving to act on the signals I am perceiving and the intuition I feel.
If there is one thing I feel at this moment in my life at 37, it is that cultivating healthy bodies is of real importance as it is one of the ways that we honor this mysterious MIRACLE of life and nurture the material receiver through which we might be able to connect with spirit, with God. Our unhealthy bodies are a distraction and impediment to the bliss that we can experience right now in the simple recognition of our oneness with all things.
Right now, many levers of society in our material world make being healthy extremely challenging for so many. There is mass suffering that needn’t be, because we are - I believe - distraction, confused, and lost, In the swirl of the cosmos, there is something happening in our little corner that feels like it glitching. Life is on assault. Our Earth, the Mother through which God allowed us to come into human form by assembling atoms from her into us, is being destroyed at our own hands, and so of course, so are we. We have broken the cycles of life, and so we are, or course, breaking.
I don’t believe the answers to this are going to be strictly technological, because technology often seems to have the intent of outsmarting nature, with I don’t think is possible. I believe they need to be based in humility, care, and respect for our Mother. 🌎
We, together, can right all of this. I think we can do it rapidly. I think we NEED to do it rapidly. We can protect our earth, protect each other, and get back on track to pursue our highest calling in this precious moment in this lifetime.
This is what I came to say to the US government yesterday.
PROFOUNDLY grateful to the other speakers on the panel, @SenRonJohnson , @RobertKennedyJr , and @calleymeans for leadership on this panel.

If you are a clinician seeing people with Type 2 diabetes, you need to tell them they can now get a free CGM from Dexcom. Link above. Get your patients to test, they soon figure out “where the sugar is coming from in their diet” @lowcarbGP
Replying to @thelowcarb_rd
@Gaylegerro talked about diabetes how reminded people that remission is possible. Most programs have strict exclusion criteria. Low carb doesn't, thus, low carb is accessible to everyone.
Get people to "eat to the meter". Blood glucose 4-7mmol will result in a good hba1c.
Wow!
Probably in the early 1960s cigarettes were ok on the ward.
May take another 60 years to change cultural attitudes?
@redicarehealth
"Nutrition and Hydration" trolley on Cardiology ward today 🙈🤯. More like "Calorie Density and Fructose" trolley. 3/4 patients on ward obese or diabetic. The NHS is broken, we cant even give sick people the right cues 😭 What can we do? 🤷🏻♂️🥴 @SimonCapewell99 @CMPHN @PHCukorg
