Occasionally we see columnists and politicians saying a person could easily live for next to nothing on porridge and turnips. This is our tenth year of doing £1 a day for a week and I can tell you, it's not sustainable. And it's bloody time consuming.
Yes it's that time of year already.
The annual C-B living on a £1.00-a-day Challenge is here.

1 in 3 children in the UK grow up in poverty, and many don’t have a single book of their own.
This Giving Tuesday, your donation could provide a child with their first book, unlocking a new world of hope and imagination.

Oh wow! Well done, Colin.
Thanks so much for your lovely message. I'm thrilled you enjoyed my chocolatey silliness 😊 🍫
No plans for a sequel (sorry!) but there are plenty of crazy funny books out there - have lots of fun hunting them out. And keep on reading 👊📚

It was an honour to be part of @NorthTyneLibs 'Our Freedom: Then & Now' project marking 80 years since the end of WWII.
I talked to loads of local pupils about my book set in the Wallsend shipyards during that war. Fab audiences with great responses to their ideas on 'freedom'.

Re English degrees - as a student Katherine Rundell read Donne's most difficult poem. It gave her an idea for a children's book. Yesterday Disney announced a monster deal for that book. So that English degree will soon create and sustain thousands of highly skilled UK jobs.

A friendly reminder that ALL of my books have FREE resources created by far cleverer people than me.
Obviously, it would be amazing if my books were being read for the pure joy of it, but knowing they are popular as classroom texts is pretty cool too.

1. The more they read…the more they like it
Only 1 in 5 kids read daily for pleasure. Timetable time. Protect it. Talk about books. Let them choose.
2. Walliams isn’t enough
He tops the charts AGAIN 😔but are his books stretching pupils? Promote stories that spark thought not just (questionable/unethical) laughs.
3. Mind the gender gap and think about representation of who and how
Girls enjoy reading more than boys in every age group. Audit your texts. Enough graphic novels? Barrington Stoke reads? Make reading feel like it belongs to everyone.

There are also now signed copies of both "Magsters" in stock, at @kibworthbooks.
I had a great time there, on Saturday. Met smashing folks and Magster has more new readers, so thank you to all who made it a lovely morning.
