How do you correct for the well-known bias toward superficial layers in laminar BOLD fMRI? We report simulations and real 7T data. TLDR: Some published methods do not actually correct the issue, but we find two metrics that do seem to work. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… Thread here:

What lies between grey and white in our #brain? It is...🥁the superficial white matter! @NikWeiskopf & Evgeniya Kirilina made this region visible in the living human brain🧐They found also that it contains a lot of iron. Out now in @ScienceAdvances: tinyurl.com/yxjgcpxx
Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is caused by damage to cells in areas of the brain called the frontal and temporal lobes. Dr. Rowe is busy finding ways to protect these precious cells. This #FTDAwarenessWeek we're sharing vital information and research 👉 alzheimersresearchuk.org/dem…

There is much (!) more to cortical layers than you can get from even ultra-high field MRI. Here is a fantastic overview. from the late Karl Zilles on the cyto-, myelo-, receptor- and synaptic architecture in human cortical areas buff.ly/32ui7Uk

Really proud of @GillesdeH for pulling off 7T-fMRI of Ocular Dominance Columns and Laminae in V1! In this collaboration between Amsterdam and Beijing (Chinese Academy of Sciences and @SpinozaCentre), we dissociated bottom-up and top-down processing *inside* the brain.
