Today, the UK government announced the allocation of an additional £10 billion in aid to Ukraine.
This British assistance does not simply help Ukraine continue its fight. It is an impulse of resilience at a time when the enemy is trying to force Ukraine to capitulate through terror against peaceful cities. This is support that truly saves Ukrainian lives.
I am grateful to Prime Minister @andyburnham , His Majesty's Government and all the people of the United Kingdom for their principled stance and concrete actions within the framework of our strategic partnership. Thank you for standing alongside Ukraine in the fight for freedom, security and a just peace🇬🇧🇺🇦

I had a great conversation with the UK Prime Minister @AndyBurnham, and we are grateful to Britain for its unwavering, strong, and truly leading support. Today, Britain made a strong decision to provide an additional £10 billion in financial support – £7 billion in economic support over the next three years, and another £3 billion in British export support, primarily for the supply of much-needed weapons that will strengthen our protection of lives. This is on top of the annual support Britain already provides to Ukraine.
A truly strong and very timely step – coming right as Russia needs to see and feel that Ukraine will not be left alone to deal with the problems Russia is so eager to escalate. Every step to strengthen Ukraine brings Russia closer to realizing that it must end this war of its own making.
Of course, Andy and I also discussed sanctions policy, and Britain will remain principled on this – setting an example that matters globally.
I am grateful to Britain, to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his team, and to every person around the world who understands that standing with Ukraine is the right thing to do – that it means being on the right side of history.

Steven and I were friends as postdocs. He’s one of the nicest, most selfless people I’ve ever met. He’s also one of those old-school scholars who can engage across the ideological spectrum; he’s pretty left wing and I’m not and we had all kinds of fun debates.
Part of the reason I get so pissed off about the rise of antisemitism is that there have been a lot of truly wonderful Jewish people in my life. These are my friends and I’m going to go to bat for them.
I don’t care what the politics of the moment are. When people cross the line between criticism of Israel (fair) to rank antisemitism (not at all okay), I’m going to call it out. It has to be loudly fought against come hell or high water.

When President Trump says we need to find a compromise – we live with this. A ceasefire and sitting down at the negotiating table – it is a huge compromise.
Nobody can step into the shoes of all these people whose children were tortured. And you can't force people to forgive. How can you force them when their child was tortured? How do you forgive? It's impossible. I desperately want justice. I just really want. I know so many people had their hearts ripped out, and there won't be a new heart.
That's why we say a ceasefire is the only step, because people’s hatred isn't going anywhere. It takes time and justice. And that's why it's a huge compromise. I've tried many times to tell the President of the United States: understand us. This is a huge compromise just to hold the lines where we are. Trump can bring Putin to the negotiating table very easily. The way President Trump talks about me, he needs to adopt that kind of rhetoric about Putin.

This data isn’t from the police or the Courts. This crime survey is based on the public’s *experience* of crime, corroborated with other sources such as hospital admissions. Violent crime has dropped massively over the last 30 years. Britain is much safer than it used to be.
The new crime survey is out - the "Lawless Britain" picture in full
- Violence at lowest since records began in 1981
- Corroborated by hospital figures for knife wounds
- Robbery: record low
- Overall crime 78% below 1995 peak.
- Shoplifting up

I welcomed the Government's acceptance of recommendations to tackle antisemitism in schools.
The response has been extraordinary.
Apparently, Jewish parents must denounce Zionism before their children deserve protection. The review is dismissed as an Israeli conspiracy. I've even been told to go back to Eastern Europe.
Not one of those arguments addresses whether Jewish children should be safe at school.
Instead, their safety is made conditional on their parents' politics, their relationship with Israel, or whether others consider them sufficiently British.
And that's the disturbing part.
A report identifies antisemitism affecting Jewish children, and some people's immediate reaction is to demonstrate precisely why such a report was needed.
You couldn't ask for a clearer illustration of the problem.
The Government has accepted all 27 recommendations of the review into antisemitism in our schools.
Good. It's long overdue.
But Jewish children don't need another set of promises. They need protection.
And when some of the problems involve the adults entrusted with educating them, who holds those adults accountable?
Implementation, not announcements, will be the real test.

Today, I was delighted to join @BBCWomansHour to discuss the review into antisemitism in schools and colleges in England, led by former Ofsted Chief Inspector Sir David Bell.
This was not a discussion about Israeli politics (although I firmly believe that schools should be places where fair and informed debate about any government is encouraged).
Rather, I spoke as a parent about Sir David’s recommendations for addressing the challenges Jewish children face, and the importance of building greater understanding to tackle antisemitism in our schools.
And yet since , this morning, the abusive responses on various platforms following what was a thoughtful, considered discussion, expertly chaired by @BBCNuala, has been shocking. And deeply depressing.
Jews are not objects of pity. We simply want to live peacefully, as part of the wider community. The last thing we want is to be singled out. But this review was necessary because Jewish children have become targets of hatred. Perhaps this is fuelled by events unfolding thousands of miles away. Or perhaps those events are being used to legitimise antisemitism that might otherwise remain unspoken.
Either way, if we are to live together with decency, respect and understanding, we must confront Jew hatred head-on. We must educate children and young people about antisemitism and the dangers of all forms of racism.
But here’s the irony: the toxic responses I’ve received came from adults not children.
And perhaps that’s the most depressing thing of all.
If this hatred is being passed down by older generations, what hope is there for our children? And I mean all our children- whatever star they were born under.

Antisemitism is the ultimate othering, often driven by ignorance which is the enemy of the cohesive and empathetic society we wish to build for all citizens.
With this in mind, the Bell Review reveals a deeply troubling level of antisemitism in our schools and colleges and is a painful indication of how far the situation has deteriorated.
I commend Sir David Bell for his important work and hope that recognising antisemitism as a potential safeguarding concern will prove to be a significant step towards protecting Jewish pupils.
I also welcome the Government’s decision to adopt all 27 of its recommendations and look forward to seeing them implemented in full.
“If education isn’t the answer, what is?”
Antisemitism has no place in our schools and colleges.
Sir David Bell’s report sets out what needs to change, informed by the experiences of Jewish communities and those working in education.
